Oversee the General Services Department's Office of Sustainability, which will include tracking progress towards the City's Sustainability Action Agenda (2019) and completing the Detroit Climate Strategy, still in process. The Director will also serve as a technical resource and in some cases, project manager, for specific sustainability initiatives within GSD, including green building and maintenance, green parks strategies, energy management, fleet electrification, and tree planting.

MAJOR DUTIES:

• Coordinate Strategic Sustainability initiatives city wide:
  • Detroit Climate Strategy: developing a strategy for citywide carbon mitigation and adaptation efforts

• Integrate Energy Efficiency in Capital and Maintenance programs:
  • Ensuring that all scopes have EE integrated
    • Implementing best practices in terms of facilities maintenance (retrocommissioning/ BMS etc)
      • Working with the DTE Strategy Energy Management team to help do this work
    • Work with vendors to develop the optimal path to fleet electrification
      • Provide advice for City project in terms of electrification needs
        • Work with the Office of Mobility innovation to develop innovative policy and programs to implement electrified mobility opportunity for Detroiters
        • Coordinate the collection of all utility data for all city buildings (over 200)
          • Maintain and update a utility dashboard for city buildings
            • Enroll buildings in the DTE Pilot
            • Prepare for the coming energy benchmarking ordinance
