House of Hope operates three emergency shelters, comprehensive shelter services for parents and children, a Housing Resource Center, a learn-to-work initiative that includes two internship programs, the Hope Chest (Children’s Clothing Resale Shop & Job-Training Program) and a culinary kitchen internship.

Job Description:
This position supports the 24 hours, 7 day a week team of professionals providing shelter and support for homeless families. Residential Support Staff, in conjunction with other shelter professionals are responsible for the provision of basic services to clients and for the safe day to day operation of Fletcher, HOH and H20 shelters. The assistant supervisor will work in conjunction with the shift supervisor of RSS staff, providing support and training to all RSS staff both full time and part time, as well as all per diem employees. The assistant supervisor has a thorough understanding of the role of the RSS staff and the duties and responsibilities of the position. The overriding goal of the shelter is to move families out of shelter and this position supports that culture in all ways possible.
We are currently hiring for second shift (4pm-12am).
Full-Time Benefits:
- A total of 31 days of benefit time available annually (11 Holidays, 10 Vacation, 10 sick time). Vacation time increases with multiple years of experience/employment

The principal duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Provide ongoing support to RSS staff with goal of developing a strong team for each shift
- Assist shift supervisor of RSS in training and orienting newly hired staff and or per diems
- Assist in scheduling RSS staff for regular weekly schedules as well as for vacation, holiday and sick coverage
- Provide coverage/schedule coverage on shifts for emergencies situations
- Assist with any cleaning tasks including room clean ups/packing a room
- Assist shift supervisor in maintaining and completing regular evaluations for RSS staff, Mid Term, 90 day, and yearly
- On call twice a week or as needed for emergency coverage on shift
- Able to manage and oversee operations during their shift and provide and advise support and direction as needed
- Maintain order and communicate/ enforce agency rules and policies
- Assist shift supervisor in maintaining reports, records, etc. related to operations
- Initiate and maintain appropriate social interactions with residents and intervene if a resident in crisis
- Implement any new policy changes or assignments/ tasks related to shift
- Regularly meet with shift supervisor of RSS and or Director of Operations
- Ability to document and discuss poor performances and provide constructive instructions that will lead to better performance
Additional Responsibilities
- Oversee and support volunteers present during their shift
- Actively participate in staff meetings/trainings- comfort with blogging and basic computer skills
- Maintain confidentiality of all resident information
- Assign tasks as needed and provide additional training
- Assist shift supervisor of RSS in any other duties as deemed necessary
- Valid drivers license and ability to operate shelter van
Experience, Skills and Qualities
- High school diploma, some college courses preferred
- Maturity, good judgement, compassionate
- Comfort working with people from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds
- Some supervisory experience
- Experience working in shelter or with families
- Ability to take responsibility and juggle multiple tasks
- Ability to remain calm in crisis
- Commitment to strengthening families and working part of a team
Additional qualifications:
- Bilingual: English/Spanish preferred, but not required

Pay: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour
