Reporting to the Vice President for Development, the Associate Vice President for Development & Campaign Director is a member of the executive management team responsible for providing hospital-wide leadership and strategic direction for the Brigham’s next Campaign. In addition, they are responsible for oversight and strategic direction of the Campaign Cabinet. They will also lead all aspects of the development strategy and planning around the Board of Trustees as well as the Mass General Brigham Corporation.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for the strategic planning, management, implementation, and oversight of all of the next BWH Campaign activities, which includes high level project management and collaboration across all levels of Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the constituents it serves.
- Authors Campaign business plan, drives the development of the campaign structure, and directs the processes and metrics that will lead to a successful comprehensive campaign.
- Works with SVP for Development / Chief Development Officer, VP for Development, President’s Office, Hospital senior leaders, department chairs, chiefs, physician/scientists and BDO staff in prioritizing fundraising goals and objectives, and schedules to launch the next Campaign.
- Provides leadership and support to the SVP for Development / Chief Development Officer and the Campaign Chair and Co-Chairs.
- Works closely with leadership of the Campaign Cabinet, as well as the Brigham’s Board of Trustees’ Resources Committee. Supports campaign engagement with advisory committees serving the hospital at large, and in specific research and clinical areas.
- Manages information sharing, transparency, coordination, and collaboration among BDO colleagues and across BWH campus.
- Provides strategic direction for regular, internal Campaign Planning Meetings, budget, timeline, and master campaign calendar. Works with SVP for Development in identifying and recruiting a Campaign Cabinet.
- Represents the Brigham at hospital-wide campaign and development events.
General
- Works closely with the Associate VP for Major Gifts, Corporate and Foundation Relations on all Campaign details related to major donors, and corporate and foundation supporters.
- Acts as a primary partner to Development Communications team in shaping, supporting, and sharing the Brigham’s story, and in the development of campaign branding, marketing, and advertising materials.
- Counsels Donor Relations and Stewardship team on stewardship activities related to campaign giving including recognition strategies, gift reports, acknowledgment letters, publications, etc.
- Collaborates with Development Events colleagues to develop targeted Campaign events.
- Collaborates with colleagues in Development Operations (Prospect Research, Information Services and Gift Administration, and Finance, Compliance, and Staff Resources) to track Campaign progress, prepare budgets, quarterly reports, development plans, pipeline reports and other forecasts.
- Serves as an ambassador of the office, empowered to represent development at all levels within the hospital. Builds strong and beneficial relationships among physicians, scientists, academic leadership as well as external audiences such as donors, business, and community leaders.
- Follows, and enforces with peers, all office-wide and hospital policies with respect to gift and campaign accounting, expenses approval, performance reviews, performance management, prospect management, and other areas.
- Engages in healthy and productive debate on office issues, works toward consensus, and carries out assigned action items or follow-up tasks.
- Provides active management and leadership to direct reports and their teams, including working with them to develop appropriate and tailored organizational achievement metrics for their teams and individual team members; and using these metrics to regularly review performance to help improve fundraising outcomes as well as personal sense of accomplishment.
- Member of the Executive Leadership Team.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree required, with an advanced degree preferred. Minimum of ten years of fundraising and development management experience. Previous campaign leadership and strategic planning experience in an academic medical center or complex university-setting essential. Well-developed understanding of fundraising best practices and strategies, particularly within an academic medical center, non-profit, or university setting. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. An enthusiastic, perceptive, energetic leader, who can affect change in a dynamic and complex environment.

- Ability to build effective long-term relationships both internally and externally, and to establish strong, interpersonal relationships with academic and administrative leaders, development colleagues, and donors.
- Experience in running projects, including planning, scheduling, tracking, and budgeting.
- The ability to activate projects and to work independently as well as collaboratively within a cross-functional/cross-departmental team. Ability to manage multiple projects and see projects through to a timely completion.
- Detailed understanding of development in a complex environment, including analyzing and interpreting data to drive and assess campaign strategies.
- Proven leadership re: utilization of fundraising databases, spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation software
- Ability to work a schedule that may include travel and some evening and weekend work.
