Job Overview

Position Schedule: Full-Time

Our Legal Division is expanding to enhance solutions for millions of clients and their families. We are looking for an experienced attorney to partner with business leaders across the firm to provide strategic legal support with respect to the firm's banking, cash, and lending products and services while successfully executing the firm's most important initiatives. This position includes working with business leaders to develop solutions that serve our clients' best interests and deliver an exceptional experience for our branch teams, clients, and the firm. The work is dynamic and requires the ability to look beyond the specific legal questions to understand the goals of the business and aid in getting to the best solution. Candidates should be highly motivated and knowledgeable about the industry and the firm. The position requires strong collaboration, an aptitude for continual learning, demonstration of intellectual curiosity by asking questions and connecting work across multiple initiatives, ability to identify and mitigate risks in new and evolving areas of law, and an ability to influence firm leaders.

Key Responsibilities

Legal Knowledge and Integrity: Exceptional legal knowledge, judgment, work ethic and integrity, and a demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality. Familiarity with consumer financial products and applicable laws and regulations, including Electronic Funds Transfer Act and Reg E, margin loans (Reg. T), securities-based lending (Reg. U), electronic money movement/NACHA, broker-dealer cash sweep products, and Bank Secrecy Act / Anti-Money Laundering regulations.
Strategic Planning and Execution: Provide strategic thought, legal leadership, support and advice on a wide range of matters pertaining to consumer banking, cash, and lending products and services.

Critical Thinking and Analytical Skills: Ability to develop and implement solutions to eliminate, manage, and mitigate risk. Ability to analyze and resolve complex legal matters and recommend changes to organizational policies and procedures.

Ability to Partner: Ability to successfully partner with associates across Edward Jones in a collaborative manner to deliver results and move important work through the organization.

Prioritization and Decision-Making: Sound judgment, decision making, and conflict resolution skills. Creative thinker who is highly organized and has exceptional prioritization skills.

Communication Skills: Excellent communication (oral and written), presentation, and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to convey complex issues to legal and non-legal professionals at all levels, including senior leaders.

Interact with Outside Counsel: Ability to interact with outside counsel to identify, evaluate and resolve complex legal questions and issues.

The salary range for this role is based on national data and actual pay is based on skills, experience, education, and other relevant factors for a potential new associate:

Hiring Minimum: $131635
Hiring Maximum: $224136

Skills/Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Juris Doctorate with exceptional academic credentials
  • Progressive professional responsibility and experience in relevant practice areas; preference for experience focused on serving as outside counsel for banks and other financial institutions or in-house counsel for a bank or broker-dealer or attorney for financial industry regulatory agency
  • Experience working with state and federal financial industry regulators (SEC, FINRA, OCC,) preferred
  • Technological aptitude and ability to learn new technologies
