Basic Function:

The site Automation/Controls Technician reports to the Automation/Controls Engineering Supervisor and has the primary responsibilities of designing and building new and innovative controls systems and maintain existing systems. This role will also be a key contributor providing input on recommendations for both improvements and identification of upcoming obsolescence within automation and controls systems for the entire site. This position is versatile by being both strategically and tactically focused based on the immediate project load and needs for the site. This role will also interface with all technical departments at multiple levels on strategic projects as a subject matter expert and be assigned jobs on capital projects as needed.

Responsibilities:

· Under minimal supervision, conducts preventive maintenance, repair, installation, and commissioning and general servicing of systems (including detailed troubleshooting of systems)

· Active development of control concepts, program design, coding and implementation, instrumentation selection, and operator interface (HMI) development.

· Active execution of controls hardware design and building/assembly.

· Experience with Rockwell hardware and programming of Logix 500, Logix 5000, & CCW.

· Execute the modification and installation of control systems utilizing and adhering to the Change Control process for assigned areas as applicable.

· Promote transfers of knowledge of control systems and electrical projects

· Support and maintains controls network interface for assigned areas, web servers, data historian, and operator interface systems.

· Accountable for problem resolution for Instrumentation and Electrical equipment within the assigned area, including Factory Controls & IT interface systems where applicable.

· Interact with the Maintenance/Reliability department in order to solve problems and define improvements.

· Support the work activities of outside contractors, controls technicians, and other associates with the installation of instrumentation, PLC-based control systems, and PC-based operator interfaces

· Support the enterprise cyber security compliance program.

· Assist in performing programming, testing, and debugging for new systems as well as for the enhancement of existing systems

· Support Engineering Projects with active participation in the design & build phases of control systems

· Support the site’s control technologies for Level I, Level II, and Factory IT control systems.

· Train and support non-technical users on the use of plant floor automation systems

· Ability to adhere to all safety guidelines and work safely with and around others.

· Ability to read technical drawings, including but not limited to mechanical/electrical prints, layouts, and all PLC programming languages (Such as Ladder, Sequential Function Chart, Structured Text, Function Block Diagram, etc).

· Ability to work non-standard hours/days (off-shift and/or weekends) to support project execution when required.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

· 2-year technical degree/certificate (Electrical/Electronics/Controls/Automation) or equivalent demonstrated experience.

· 1-4 years field experience preferred.

· Entry Level applicants considered.

· Demonstrated Familiarity with Rockwell Automation applications and platforms.

· Understanding of networks including but not limited to Modbus, Ethernet/IP.

· Possess the desire & ability to obtain an Operations Electrical Qualification Certificate valid in NY State and Orange County. (Bonus if already certified with Port Jervis)

· Ability to read and understand technical drawings (P&ID, Electrical Schematics, PFD, etc.)

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Direct familiarity working in a cGMP working environment

· Excellent communication and leadership skills; Ability to plan, multi-task and manage time effectively.

· Experience with Devicenet, and/or Profibus a plus, but not required.

· Basic knowledge of AutoCAD and EPDM Vault considered a plus.
