This position is responsible for supervising the day-to-day activities of medical charge entry, billing and coding to ensure that all information for proper billing is complete and accurate; and monitoring the daily work of each staff member. The Billing and Coding Supervisor ensures that all functions performed by staff conform to policies and procedures. The supervisor will ensure all billing and coding disciplines are executed in a compliant and efficient manner while providing leadership and guidance to the field and Revenue Cycle Management teammates. The supervisor will ensure accurate coding of medical records and documentation to include diagnoses, procedures, and modifiers with adherence to established coding guidelines for both government and third-party payers. This position requires the ability to adapt to changing priorities and high performance in a fast-pace environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Plans, supervises, and coordinates all activities of the billing and coding department.
  • Ensures timely charge entry batch completion and tracking of superbills.
  • Ensures proper medical coding of services performed and assists with medical coding audits, as needed. Manages and distributes work pertaining to clearinghouse billing edits.
  • Establishes controls and reviews mechanisms for every process to ensure that systems and procedures are being followed correctly.
  • Coordinates workflows and ensures deadlines are met.
  • Identifies opportunities and re-evaluates workflows for the purpose of improving efficiency.
  • Maintains attendance and evaluation reports on all staff. Ensures proper staffing in assigned area.
  • Closely monitors and evaluates staff performance through observation, work audits and daily performance reports.
  • Assists with interviews and trains new personnel; evaluates work performance of subordinate personnel and recommends personnel actions such as merit increases and promotions to the reporting Manager; resolves disciplinary matters and counsels with staff as necessary.
  • Assists with complex billing and coding inquiries from staff and teammates located at the practice.
  • Works to resolve medical records issues that prevent final billing of services (i.e., HCPCS codes, lCD10CM codes, procedure codes, and superbill and medical record request delays).
  • Explains laws, policies, procedures, and regulations to employees and other teammates.
  • Implements, enforces, and maintains established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
  • Maintains required records, reports, and files for the area of responsibility.
  • Lead daily team huddles and lead meetings, as applicable.
  • Participate in regular meetings with Manager providing updates and operational reports, as applicable.
  • Assists with a variety of special projects.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle
  • Knowledge of CPT and ICD-9/10 coding
  • Knowledge of healthcare insurance reimbursement policies and coding guidelines
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and other applicable state/federal requirements
  • Knowledge of applicable state collection laws
  • Must have excellent analytical and communication skills and ability to work with minimal direction.
Required Qualifications:
  • 3 plus years of experience in Medical Billing & Coding, prior experience in a leadership role or related experience.
  • Prior experience with NextGen software preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree (or technical school certification) preferred
  • Certified Professional Coder preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with multiple practice management software a plus.
Min: USD $60,000.00/Yr. Max: USD $70,000.00/Yr.
