Caseworker

Organization

Homeless Action Sonoma (HAS) is a non-profit organization committed to ending homelessness in the City of Sonoma community. HAS has purchased land in the Boyes Hot Springs neighborhood of Sonoma on which to build a transitional facility. Temporary shelters are expected to be onsite by December of 2022 or January 2023. Wraparound services are being provided to the unsheltered in this community and so the need for local and experienced caseworkers. In the future HAS will break ground on a permanent facility with individual rooms and a variety of on-site services.

Overview:

The case worker is directly responsible for the delivery of supportive services to the residents, working daily with community partners and those experiencing homelessness. This position will report to the Operations Manager and work together with staff and residents fulfilling the mission of the organization to provide shelter and restore lives.

Primary Responsibilities

• Interview clients and assess their needs.
• Be familiar with local agencies to make referrals for needed services according to the guidelines provided by those agencies.
• Identify goals and assist those we service in gaining independence.
• Address issues that may be barriers to obtaining housing, such as chronic homelessness, brain illness, physical health concerns, substance use disorders, under-employment, and lack of income.
• Provide supportive counseling guidance and referrals to community resources.
• Engage regularly and consistently with individual insurance program participation and progress.
• Maintain detailed and accurate client case files. Complete all required documentation and reports to evaluate success and performance.
• Keep updated on all relevant community services, other service organizations and outreach activities and best practices.
• Enter and update information into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).

Qualifications

• 5 years of relevant work experience, including 3+ years experience in homeless services or related social programs.
• Must have an exceptional ability to work with a diversity of people, demonstrate compassionate listening and speaking skills, ensure clear personal boundaries and have the ability to work collegially with others.
• Be familiar with the local City of Sonoma community and live within a reasonable commuting distance.
• Have your own reliable transportation along with the appropriate insurance.

Employment

This is a part-time position with a suggested hourly wage of $22. Weekly work schedule to be arranged by mutual agreement.
