This unique opportunity is part of the Mechanical Systems Engineering, Fabrication and Test Division which engages in research, technology development, and the creation of advanced mechanical, thermal, propulsion, and electronic packaging systems with expertise that spans the full breadth of mechanical disciplines and is applied from architectural concept development through operations.
As a Cleanroom Technician II, you will be supporting the Electronic Manufacturing, Packaging, & Technical Services Section, which provides engineering services that include the following: fabrication of electronics (boards and cables/harnesses), microelectronic and photonic hardware; electronic packaging, manufacturing engineering and electronic hardware thermal/structural analysis; advanced electronic packaging engineering, technology development and process engineering; technical facilities management and cleanroom services/certification; custom measurement systems development and instrumentation services; calibration services, test equipment loan pool and metrology engineering, and technical inventory management, cryogenics services and Flight Hardware Logistics Program (FHLP).
Responsibilities:
Support the cleanroom technician lead in evaluating, maintaining and monitoring system level cleanrooms for proper cleanliness performance in order to meet projects’ contamination control requirements. Work to be performed using ISO 14644 cleanroom standards and guidelines. Work will also include monitoring instrumentation for facility support operations to ensure occupational and system safety. Respond to project-specific tasks and requests for supporting flight hardware and JCI operations in cleanrooms.
Perform cleanroom maintenance and use standard cleaning techniques to ensure facility and equipment meet contamination control requirements.
Monitors lab environment conditions and report anomalies to cleanroom engineers.
Provide and maintain cleanroom garments inventory, consumables and ESD approved products to lab users, Product Delivery Managers (PDMs) and Cognizant engineers.
Use knowledge of cleanroom procedures and protocols, electrostatic discharge properties and JPL Critical Item Handling to ensure system safety. Report safety anomalies to the TFM facility engineer.
Support the cleaning and preparation of ground support equipment into critical facilities cleanrooms.
Perform routine job functions and activities within moderate technical facilities operations and project support scope.
Required to receive the following training at JPL: Cleanroom Fundamentals and Practices, Cleanroom Housekeeping, Electrostatic Discharge-ESD Control, Fall Protection, Hazard Communications/Chemical Safety, Hazardous Waste Generation, Asbestos Awareness, Blood Borne Pathogens.
Qualifications:
High School degree with 6 years of related experience or Associates degree with 1 year of related experience.
Ability to read and follow written instructions.
Able to work after-hours and on weekends when required.
Ability to lift 50 pounds and climb ladders.
Understand general job aspects of cleaning, housekeeping maintenance, filtration systems.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and be flexible to change tasks upon request.
Preferred Skills:
Understanding of applicable policies and procedures in cleanroom fundamentals and practices.
Cleanroom protocols, cleaning of cleanroom environments and HEPA filter maintenance.
Electrical and mechanical skills, with hands-on experience.
Prior JPL experience in cleanroom housekeeping and maintenance.
