POSITION SUMMARY:
Reviews medical and billing documentation to ensure accurate and optimal coding of medical diagnoses and procedures for maximum reimbursement.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Gathers, compiles, reviews and analyzes medical record and billing documentation to determine accurate code assignment.
• Codes surgeries and other services utilizing appropriate ICD-10, ICD-9-CM, CPT-4 and HCPCS coding classification systems.
• Consistently reviews and is familiar with all applicable coding edits in accordance with all governing resources (e.g. Correct Coding Initiative, AMA, etc.) to ensure accurate coding.
• Collaborates with other business office departments on denials.
• Identifies documentation deficiencies to Coding Manager.
• Gathers and compiles documentation necessary for coding review and analysis.
• Identifies and recommends areas for training opportunities.
• Consistently displays a positive attitude and a personal commitment to excellence.
• Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
• Attends all department meetings and clinic required meetings.
• Maintains strict confidentiality.

Required Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or GED.
• AAS in coding or business-related degree.
• 3-5 years surgical coding experience.
• Certified Professional Coding (CPC) through AAPC or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) through AHIMA.
• Certified ASC Coding Certification (CASCC) through AAPC.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Strong verbal and written communication skills required. The employee frequently is required to sit for long periods of time; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Ability to exercise good judgment and positively influence and lead others, including handling confrontations with poise and efficiency. Repetitive motion of upper body required for extended use of computers and telephones.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position in an outpatient medical business office setting. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00am to 5:00pm. Based on business need, the ability to work a flexible schedule, including some overtime as approved in advance.

Travel: This position does not require any travel.

Work Environment: This position requires regular and reliable on-site attendance.
