The Community Outreach Coordinator is an important part of the League City Animal Care team. This position includes a shared responsibility for the development, implementation, supervision, management and overall responsibility of LCAC’s outreach programs.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent organization management ability, as well as customer service skills that provide a high level of pleasant professional service to all clients, staff, and volunteers. This position will work independently and responsibly while observing all health and safety guidelines and contribute enthusiastically to the positive culture and mission of the LCAC at all times. This is a safety sensitive and/or DOT position. As such, you will be required to participate in random drug testing at the city.

  • Work as a community outreach team to ensure all community outreach programs are managed effectively and cohesively
  • Serve as initial primary contact for all volunteers, fosters, media requests, and public events, based on assigned duties
  • Research, devise, and implement effective volunteer and foster recruitment and retention strategies
  • Develops and manages the shelter's volunteer and foster program to ensure accurate tracking and recordkeeping
  • Develop, maintain, and ensure up to date training on advanced or specialized programs to ensure continual growth of shelter programs
  • Ensure accurate information in all shelter records and data software
  • Track data on all community outreach programs and utilize it to create a monthly report to be submitted to the Animal Services Manager
  • Respond to requests for information from the community regarding specific volunteer, foster, or public event questions
  • Provide support in other departments or collective tasks as needed
  • Conduct any related tasks as assigned by the Animal Services Manager
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including holidays and weekends

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a high school graduate (or GED)
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in animal welfare, shelter or customer service is required
  • Experience in program management/implementation or experience in a supervisory role preferred.

Supplemental Information

Knowledge of:

  • Animal handling techniques, behavior patterns in small domestic animals, proper procedures for the care and maintenance of animals housed in an animal shelter, common diseases and injuries in dogs, cats, and other domestic animals and breed identification
  • Current trends and best practices, such as HASS
  • Volunteer software systems
  • Current marketing practices

Skill in:

  • Report, correspondence and procedure writing techniques, training techniques, and conflict resolution techniques
  • Exercising tact and independent judgment and presenting a positive public image
  • Maintain personal appearance and behavior that meets the expectations of LCAC’s mission, values, and relationship with the community, including clients, volunteers, employees, supporters, and animals
  • Must demonstrate a positive and cooperative attitude toward all staff, volunteers, fosters, and citizens
  • Effective team leadership
  • Graphic design, marketing and social media

Ability to:

  • Use basic arithmetic, proper grammar, and standard office automation software
  • Develop, plan, direct and schedule the work of volunteers
  • Train and evaluate volunteers
  • Ability to explain, apply and enforce rules and policies
  • Obtain cooperation and compliance from members of the public
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with the public, volunteers, fosters, and staff
  • Collect and evaluate data, draw conclusions and make recommendations
