The City of Jersey City is seeking a qualified, dynamic, and motivated Customer Service Representative for the Division of Housing Preservation. The ideal candidate, under the supervision of the supervisor, will be handling and dealing with owners and landlords in connection with applications and registrations and tenant’s requests, and/or inquiries.
Job Duties:
- Receives and resolves inquiries by owners and tenants concerning various applications, registrations, and tenant petitions.
- Handles requests concerning various applications, registrations, and tenant petitions.
- Assists in the preparation of required forms.
- Ensures that office records are updated.
- Distributes forms and information to the public to communicate specific requirements of relevant registrations and applications.
- Talks with owners and tenants by phone or in-person to assist in obtaining the required applications and forms from these constituents.
- Operates various office and mail processing machines such as keyboard equipment, calculators, computer printers, sorter, photocopier, fax machine, stamping machine, labeling machine, etc.
- Prepares routine reports or assists in the preparation of reports by gathering data, tabulating results, and/or preparing simple charts.
- In addition to all other tasks requested by Supervisor and the Division Assistant Director and
Director.

Required Educational Background: High School Diploma or GED required.
Preferred Experience: One (1) year of experience in receiving in handling customer complaints and inquiries.
Essential Skills:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and Planner.
- Knowledge of office routines, equipment, and practices after being trained.
- Comprehend established office routines and department regulations.
- Organize assigned work and develop effective work methods.
- Ability to make simple arithmetic calculations.
- Understand, remember, and carry out oral and written directions.
- Perform tasks accurately within prescribed time frames.
- Ability to work effectively with associates, superior officials, and members of the public concerned with the work of the department.
- Sort, index, file, and pull varied types of materials using an established filing system.
This is a Civil Service Job, and you must eventually pass and qualify for the applicable Civil Service title.
