NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
Salary Range
$88,600 - $172,300
- Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
What Your Job Will Be Like
We are seeking a highly motivated and driven Cyber Information System Security Officer (ISSO) to obtain and maintain system accreditations, perform continuous monitoring, and incident response activities for a diverse portfolio of Strategic Intelligence Partnership Programs.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Ensure that the appropriate operational security posture is maintained for a given portfolio of information systems
- Ensure systems are operated, maintained, and disposed of in accordance with security policies and procedures as outlined in the security authorization package
- Develop and maintain System Security Plans
- Manage and control changes to system configurations, and assess the security impact of those changes
- Conduct periodic reviews of information systems to ensure compliance with the security authorization package
- Determine security requirement gaps and provide recommendations or mitigations for addressing the gaps
- Work closely with our Information Security Site Manager (ISSM), Information System Security Officers (ISSOs) and system administrators to provide interpretation of NIST/JSIG requirements and guidelines along with validation testing
- Interface with external entities including the Department of Defense and Intelligence Community agencies to securely enable new and emerging programs and maintain existing programs
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite
Qualifications We Require
- Master’s degree in Management Information Systems, Information Assurance, Computer Science or related field, plus 1 year of relevant experience; or Bachelor’s degree in the above-mentioned disciplines, plus 5 years
- Experience working in a US Government or government contractor cyber security program
- Experience with continuous monitoring tools (i.e. Splunk, Nessus, Security Center)
- Experience with Risk Management Framework (RMF)
- Experience interpreting, implementing, and testing NIST 800-53 security controls
- Experience with operating systems to include Windows and Linux
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Security Clearance and DOE SCI Security Clearance, and potentially Other Government Agency Security Clearances and/or Special Access Program clearances which may require a polygraph test
Qualifications We Desire
- System administration experience, to include a thorough understanding of common operating systems (e.g. Windows, Linux) and networking architectures
- Experience as an Information System Security Officer (ISSO)
- Familiarity of the Joint Special Access Program Implementation Guide (JSIG)
- Active Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP) certification or Security + certification
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Active DOE Q or DOD TS security clearance and DOE SCI Security Clearance

The FIE Cyber Security Operations Department supports the Field Intelligence Element mission by delivering capabilities around information system hardening/accreditation, vulnerability assessment, risk management and forensics with a particular focus on mitigating cyber threats. The Cyber Security staff, consisting of Information Systems Security Managers (ISSMs), Information Systems Security Officers (ISSOs), Alternate ISSOs (AISSOs), and Information Systems Security Engineers (ISSEs), provide effective technical solutions for DOE, DOD and the Intelligence Community.

Security Clearance
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
