Job description
The Data Science Research Analyst is responsible for applying standard data science techniques to existing projects within the UCI Center for Statistical Consulting and Institute for Clinical and Translational Science Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Research Design Unit. A successful candidate should have familiarity with supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques, regression/classification, predictive modeling/forecasting, and data mining. Competence in multiple programming languages (e.g. R, Python, SQL) is a preferred. Position reports directly to the Director for the UCI Center for Statistical Consulting, with future projects encompassing data management, programming, and basic statistical analysis needs of UCI researchers. Position will involve project consultations with faculty, staff, and student researchers as well as collaborations with other Center for Statistical Consulting staff. Duties may also be expanded to more complex data analytic methodologies for projects seen fit by the Director. Incumbent is expected to assist with data analysis and report generation for internal and external client. Applies data / information management concepts, department / unit and campus / medical center / OP methodologies, policies and procedures to resolve a variety of data / information management issues. Works on data / information management problems of moderate scope and complexity where analyses of situations or data require a review of a variety of factors.

Required:
- Demonstrated knowledge of statistical software to analyze data from a variety of sources. (e.g. R. Python, Stata, SAS, Matlab)
- B.A./B.S. in computer science or statistics or related fields and 1-2 years of experience applying standard data science techniques, is preferred. Significant work experience can be used in place of a degree
Knowledge of data management systems, practices and standards. Ability to prepare simple data models under guidance of more senior professionals. Demonstrated ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Strong analytical and design skills, including the ability to abstract information requirements from real-world processes to understand information flows in computer systems. Preferred:
Knowledge relating to logical data design, data warehouse design, data integration or the management of web content or other unstructured data. Familiarity with important types of data models such as logical / relational models, dimensional models and document models. Intermediate knowledge of relevant rules and regulations.
