Introduction:
Seldovia Village Tribe is seeking candidates who are interested in training to become a Dental Assistant. This opportunity will train you to become a Dental Assistant professional and a key member of our Dental team.
Position Overview: The duties of the Dental Assistant are among the most comprehensive and varied in the SVT Health & Wellness Dental Program. Under supervision of the Dental Director, the Dental Assistant provides a range of clinical, administrative, and staff-support functions. The Dental Assistant position serves to assist the Dental Director and Dental Hygienist in the delivery of quality oral health care.
Dental Assistants Perform Duties & Responsibilities such as:
- Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment
- Prepare materials to treat patientAssist with four-handed dentistryInstruct patient on general postoperative care and oral health care
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of procedures in EHR
- Understanding of use and appropriate donning and doffing of PPE
- Dental equipment maintenance includes but is not limited to Weekly/monthly maintenance of M11, Weekly spore testing of sterilizers, water testing every 3 months, water line disinfecting weekly or when necessary, changing of operatory and compressor Traps.
- Disinfect operatory and discard of waste materials properly
- Dental radiography
- Obtain and update patient dental records
- Set up operatory for patient care
Upon completion of training, the employee/trainee should be able to:
- Assist chair side, maintain proper asepsis, and utilize instruments, equipment, and moisture control in all aspects of dentistry. This includes but in not limited to assisting with delivery of anesthetic, performing rubber dam application, sealants, fluoride treatments, coronal polishing, as well as post-operative and oral hygiene instructions.
- Identify and apply the concepts of dental ethics in relationship to dental team; culturally and professionally.
- Perform laboratory procedures including but not limited to taking impression, pouring and trimming study models, constructing custom trays, bleaching trays, and mouth guards, temporary restorations, and manipulate intermediary materials using aseptic technique.
- Expose, mount and critique radiographs, psp, digital, and panoramic images.
- Have knowledge to schedule patients for various treatments, maintain a recall system, order and maintain supplies, complete patient insurance forms, and make financial arraignments.
- Identify and apply concepts of dental terminology, record patient medical and dental history, and maintain chart notes.
Training Opportunity Requirements:
- It is preferred that candidates have prior experience in clinical settings or some base knowledge of infection control in a medical setting.
- CNA or equivalent a plus.
- BLS/First Aid Required – Provided by SVT
Employment Requirements:
- Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen
- Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check
- Must undergo FBI Fingerprinting

Physical Demands:
This position requires the ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment such as a fitted respirator mask and protective examination gloves.
The nature of this position requires good manual dexterity.
Employee can expect to do the following activities 5.5+ hrs per day: Stand, Walk, Manually Manipulate, Lift/Carry 10 lbs or less, Push/Pull 12 lbs or less.
Employee can expect to do the following activities 2.5-5.5 hrs per day: Sit, Grasp, Lift/Carry 11-20 lbs, Push/Pull 13-40 lbs.
Employee can expect to do the following activities 0-2.5 hrs per day: Climb/Crawl/Squat/Kneel, Bend, Reach Outward or above, lift/carry 21-50 lbs.
Work Environment: The Dental program of SVT Health & Wellness is a fast-paced work environment and requires the ability to manage time and stress. Seldovia Village Tribe is a drug-free, alcohol-free, and tobacco-free work environment. An individual in this position may be exposed to communicable diseases or hazards common to a healthcare setting, including but not limited to needle stick wounds, chemicals, and tuberculosis. Work is generally conducted in a typical office setting. Travel between locations may be by small boat, small plane, or by car and is subject to inclement weather.
