Job description
Many adults in Philadelphia lack the digital skills needed to do many of the things that we take for granted like setting up email accounts and using Microsoft and Google applications. This is a barrier for adults to apply for jobs, have the skills necessary for many jobs, access telemedicine, and even communicate with family and friends. As an AmeriCorps Member you will be able to serve in a community-based organization to provide the much needed support to these adults. Members will provide one-on-one support on digital skills, lead digital skills classes, help to create resumes, and provide support in using the internet to find jobs. The member will be part of a cohort of AmeriCorps members and will be required to participate in cohort orientation and training. Members will have access to additional training opportunities. As part of this cohort you will learn how to provide instruction on digital skills, ways to support job seekers and gain a better understanding of the adult education and workforce systems in Philadelphia. Members in the cohort will have the opportunity to learn more about careers in nonprofits and have the opportunity to network with nonprofit professionals. The Drexel University AmeriCorps Member Program is based out of the Lindy Center for Civic Engagement. The Lindy Center for Civic Engagement exists to fulfill Drexel University’s vision as a comprehensive, progressive university with a deep commitment to civic engagement. The Lindy Center for Civic Engagement fosters a culture of civic responsibility by providing programs and resources that empower Drexel students and the broader university community to expand their civic identities through engagement in mutually-beneficial partnerships that lead to a more just society.
