Position Description

Education Programs Directors, Supervisors, and Professionals assist and foster the growth of early childhood, pre-K, K-12, postsecondary, adult, and related education programs throughout Nevada by providing technical assistance, training, and oversight. Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.


This recruitment is for an Education Programs Supervisor under the direction of the Office of Student and School Supports Director within the Department of Education (NDE), located in Carson City or Las Vegas, Nevada, depending on the location of the selected candidate. This position supervises a team of staff who provide oversite of federal grant programs, state priorities and goals, and other school improvement initiatives aimed at supporting all districts, schools, and students across Nevada. This position will be responsible for ensuring program implementation, monitoring and evaluation, grants management, budget oversight, use of evidence-based practices, data informed decision-making, effective use of funds, and other relevant federal and state requirements, including what is specified in ESEA and ESSA. The incumbent will train, coach, supervise, and evaluate the performance of 10-12 professional staff, collaborate with two Education Programs Supervisors (EPS) within OSSS and other EPSs across the agency to strengthen alignment and communication with stakeholders on initiatives and policies.


The ideal candidate will have familiarity with federal and state law requirements and education policy; be informed on the latest research and evidence-based practices for system and school transformation; demonstrate leadership on issues of equity and excellence, particularly with regard to closing opportunity gaps; demonstrate the capacity to scale and replicate highly effective practices; lead change management initiatives to transition teams from compliance to performance based support; cultivate a team culture of high performance; build staff capacity; maintain trusting and collaborative relationships with partners; and leverage a strong network of partners and experts to further the Department's goals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree from an accredited university in business, economics, education, English, math, psychology, science, sociology, or closely related field and two years of professional experience in an educational program area, which included experience in at least one of the following areas related to the current vacancy: managing a program budget; leading and managing a team that supports organizational goals; evaluating a program and/or program participants for compliance purposes or outcomes; developing and implementing a vision for desired outcomes; and/or communicating with diverse stakeholders across various platforms; OR Master's degree from an accredited university in business, economics, education, English, math, psychology, science, sociology, or related field and three years of professional experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Education Programs Professional in Nevada State service.
