HF Sinclair in Sinclair, WY is seeking a Process Safety Engineer will serve as the technical lead for the Process Safety Department and the primary hub of process safety knowledge and mentorship for the refinery. The Process Safety Engineer will be the primary designee to lead the Process Safety and Investigations Group in the manager’s absence, and may be designated as the lead/manager for projects and initiatives by engineering, operations, or EHS management as appropriate.

Job Duties

• Advise in the development of SIFs according to ISA 61511.
• Advise in the development of pressure relief device (PSV, PRV, PSE) sizing, selection, and management according to ASME Section VIII BPVC, API 520, API 521, API 2000.
• Review and approve/reject facility siting requests.
• Advise in the development of inspection, testing, and preventative maintenance (ITPM) plans for safeguards and IPLs.
• Lead hazard reviews during design phases of smaller projects.
• Participate in applicable Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs).
• Provide support for PHA and LOPA studies.
• Establish performance criteria for outside-led PHAs.
• Perform Quality Reviews and approval of PHA reports.
• Assist in the development, implementation, and training on safety critical equipment.
• Participate in development, implementation, and training on other Process Safety activities including MOC, PHA, Facility Siting Studies (FSS), and any enhancements to existing Process Safety programs.
• Participate in investigations of Process Safety Events.
• Coordinate with other departments to assure accuracy of Process Safety Information (PSI).
• Develop, review, and improve Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Process Safety.
• Develop and provide training on technical subject matters as necessary.
• Create and maintain a well-organized and professional looking work area.
• Follow through on commitments made to others.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education/Experience

A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Five years of process safety experience in petroleum. Professional Engineer (PE) license desired.
