The CDC Foundation seeks an epidemiologist to support epidemiologic and surveillance activities related to maternal mortality prevention through CDC’s Enhancing Reviews and Surveillance to Eliminate Maternal Mortality (ERASE MM) initiative.

The epidemiologist will contribute to increased understanding of the multi-factorial contributors to pregnancy-related deaths at the national and jurisdiction-levels, and increased understanding of opportunities for prevention of future deaths. The epidemiologist will conduct data analyses using program data and surveillance data from both the Maternal Mortality Review Information Application (MMRIA) and the Pregnancy Mortality Surveillance System.

The successful candidate will be hired by the CDC Foundation and will be organizationally located with the Maternal Mortality Prevention Team in CDC’s National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP), Division of Reproductive Health (DRH), Maternal and Infant Health Branch (MIHB).

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Contribute to maternal mortality data analyses to improve the use of surveillance and program data that advances analytic approaches to an understanding of characteristics of and prevention opportunities for addressing pregnancy-related deaths.

2. Contribute to maternal mortality data analyses to improve understanding of characteristics of and prevention opportunities for addressing pregnancy-related deaths and draft dissemination products (e.g., manuscripts, reports, presentations).

3. Use health equity principles to inform analytic approaches and activities.

4. Participate in project-related meetings and calls.

Qualifications and Necessary Skills

1. Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a concentration in epidemiology, biostatistics, or closely related discipline is required.

2. Minimum of 2 years of related professional experience required with direct experience in data analysis.

3. At a minimum, intermediate proficiency in data management and analysis using SAS.

4. Highly detail oriented, works well within a diverse team, demonstrates a high degree of initiative and flexibility adapts to shifting priorities, able to communicate effectively in a positive and professional manner, and able to prioritize activities when under tight deadlines.

5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
