Job Description:
Exercise Physiologist

Develops fitness and exercise programs that help patients recover from chronic diseases and improve cardiovascular function, body composition, and flexibility.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Advanced knowledge in exercise prescription - special populations, functional training and sport specific
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with patients and other healthcare professionals
  • Ability to use initiative and independent judgment
  • Ability to adapt to frequent changes in volume of work
  • Ability to function effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, think and act independently with minimal supervision
  • Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES
  • Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology, Health Fitness
  • Master's degree preferred
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) or must obtai
  • American College of Sports Medicine Clinical Exercise Specialist Certification
  • AAFAA, ACE or other nationally recognized Personal Training certification preferred
  • American College of Sports Medicine Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist certification preferred


EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum three (3) month internship in a comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation program in addition to one (1) year of experience
  • One or more years of relevant clinical experience in cardiac rehabilitation preferred
  • Experience in arrhythmia detection and interpretation preferred

PHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently
  • Possess physical agility and adequate reaction time to respond quickly and appropriately to unexpected patient care needs
  • Needs adequate hearing and visual acuity, including adequate color vision
  • Requires fine motor skills, adequate eye-hand coordination, and ability to grasp and handle objects
  • Able to use proper body mechanics to assist patients in ambulating, transferring in and out of bed, chair or wheelchair
  • May be required to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Must use standard precautions due to threat of exposure to blood and bodily fluids
  • Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone
  • May require periodic use of personal computer
