EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The primary duties of the Financial Aid Specialist include verifying the Free Application of Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) applications in compliance with all federal regulations, completing various reports related to a student’s application, and counseling current and prospective students and families concerning their application for financial assistance. Other duties and responsibilities include: Complete knowledge and understanding of guidelines and eligibility calculations associated with all financial aid programs. This requires constant continuing education (interpreting regulations, reading handbook, attending conferences, participating in webinars, etc.).Verifying the Free Application of Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) applications in compliance with all federal regulations, which includes: Reviewing applications for accuracy of information and completion of documentationRequesting appropriate documentation to verify data as required by federal regulations.Documenting and correcting inaccurate data and recalculating eligibilityMonitor Satisfactory Academic Progress for all applicants.Determining when an application is eligible and ready to be awarded.Considering the use of professional judgment in a fair and consistent manner to make decisions for situations, which arise, that are not covered by federal regulation. (ie. dependency overrides, special circumstances)Working daily reports in a timely mannerProficiency in MS Office Suite as well as other technical skill requirements
