Overview of the Role:

The Lead Medical Assistant manages and coordinates all clinical operations and staffing to ensure optimal patient care and excellent customer service.

Managerial Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ensuring excellent customer service both internally and externally
  • Assesses current and future staffing needs to ensure efficient patient flow
  • Ensures new hires and current staff is adequately trained to perform defined job duties
  • Monitors patient volume and staff performance to identify areas for improvement and efficiency
  • Ensures practice costs are maintained through effective planning
  • Orders, stocks, and maintains adequate inventories of all medical and office supplies
  • Track and pay clinic invoices
  • Manages time reporting for staff
  • Manages employee issues and resolves grievances
  • Provides coverage as needed
  • Resolves patient complaints
  • Responsible for charges generated from patient visits and services
  • Acts as a liaison between the clinic and Privia for support and administrative matters
  • Follows HIPAA guidelines
  • Other duties as required

Clinical Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Greet and escort patients to exam room; make them feel welcome and comfortable
  • Prepare patients for exams; obtain urine specimens, check vital signs, document symptoms, complaints and medications
  • Ensure the patient’s demographic information is correct and updated
  • Evaluate calls for emergencies and triage appropriately
  • Coordinate and schedule physician’s appointments, meetings, etc.
  • Assist the physician, residents and fellows with exams and procedures
  • Give injections and/or teach the patient to administer injections to self
  • Assistant patient with obtaining lab slips and/or referrals, scheduling procedures, prescriptions, etc.
  • Educate patients on healthcare concerns & problems, office & hospital procedures, medications, testing, etc.
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients and others
  • Maintain patient flow
  • Follow HIPAA guidelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Interpersonal Skills & Attributes

  • Knowledge of relevant medical terminology in order to communicate effectively with physicians, staff, and patients
  • Knowledge of basic office procedures
  • Ability to accurately enter patient data into office software
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and office personnel
  • Ability to anticipate and react calmly to emergent situations
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to think logically in order to troubleshoot, analyze situations, and make appropriate decisions
  • Ability to handle oneself in a professional manner

Experience:

  • 1+ year of experience in a clinical setting
  • 1+ year of experience managing employees
  • 1+ year of experience as front and/or back office Medical Assistant

Education:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Medical Assistant Certification (Preferred)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
