LOCAL APPICANTS PREFERRED:
Primary Area of Focus: Youth Stewardship Program, a free environmental service learning program. YSP’s full program includes 1 in-class visit and 5 field trips. Each trip consists of environmental education activities and habitat restoration work.


Duties:

Coordinate, schedule, and co-lead in-class presentations and thematic field trips to San Francisco’s city parks and natural areas for grades 2nd -12th grade.

Utilize environmental education curriculum and resources to create meaningful lesson plans

Communicate and coordinate with the Parks and Open Space Division to design and implement intentional age-appropriate habitat restoration projects.

Have an ongoing dialogue with teachers and educators to schedule field trips and modify established YSP curriculum to meet teacher’s needs when necessary.

Maintain thorough data collection and records including creating and conducting surveys, capturing media documentation, creating reports etc., to meet grant deliverables.

Support and coordinate with Volunteer Operation staff to prepare and lead Volunteer projects, meetings, outreach and special events.

Lead Urban Ag focused trips in the youth Stewardship Program, demonstration garden and Alemany Farms.

Support Occasional Greenager and large volunteer workdays


Desired Qualifications:

Enjoys working with diverse intergenerational crowds, and strong interest in working with youth

Interest and experience in Urban Agriculture and Urban Parks

Experience leading/facilitating youth through structured activities

Able to engage and comfortable managing groups of youth and/or adults for 2+ hours

Works well in a team setting and similarly, is self-motivated and can work independently

Passion for the environment and working outdoors

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Computer literate; MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, Internet

Previous related experience or background in biology, environmental studies, or other related subjects or strong interest and willing to learn independently and through experience

B.A. or B.S. in related subject (preferred not required)

Multi-lingual, ideally in Spanish and/or Cantonese

Comfortable driving large trucks or willing to learn

Ideally Bay Area resident

Required Qualifications:

Willing to work occasional off hours and outdoors in inclement weather

California State Drivers’ License with a good driving record

Experience working with youth is a must


Training:

Interns will receive hands-on trainings as well as formal workshop style trainings over the course of a year in San Francisco natural history and ecology, youth leadership techniques, restoration skills, and program coordination, special event planning and general operation trainings.

Compensation:

$700 weekly stipend, paid bi-weekly

$900 month housing allowance
Health Insurance if required
