Summary
The Magnet Program Director (MPD) is responsible for oversight of the Magnet Program and implementation of creative systems, processes, clinical practices that improve patient care delivery. Responsible for assuring the Magnet framework and essential domains are enculturated and hardwired into the organization through coordination, education and consultation with Leadership. Leads education for staff and Magnet Champions on key initiatives and Magnet principles. Conducts gap analysis for evidence of the Magnet Model components and works closely with leadership to formulate plans to close the gaps in performance. Performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned.
MPD responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Facilitate all aspects of the Magnet application and document submission process.
- Provide oversight and direction of Nursing Research Program.
- Understand nursing-sensitive quality indicators and participate in PI Council.
- Create periodic Magnet journey status reports and present at various meetings in a variety of settings to a variety of attendees.
- Review and interpret Magnet Program components and communicate findings to relevant team members.
- Understand and articulate the process of operational and capital budget allocations.
- Assist and support nursing leadership in creating and sustaining a culture of nursing excellence.
- Maintain a working knowledge of all nursing processes and practices within the facility.
- Maintain a professional and positive attitude within an environment of ambiguity and sustained change.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm for the pursuit of nursing excellence and the advancement of professional nursing practice.
- Facilitate an interprofessional approach to problem-resolution and communication to promote the delivery of high-quality healthcare.
- Maintain a spirit of inquiry utilizing nursing evidence-based practice findings and research methodologies to improve the care delivered.
- Role model personal and professional growth through continuing education and certification in an area of specialization.
- Understand and support nursing shared decision making.
- Attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services
- Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care

Education and Experience
Minimum Required Education: BSN and Master’s Degree required. MSN preferred.
Experience: Experience in Magnet Project coordination/document preparation strongly preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Must be a Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Virginia or compact state; Must have current BLS Certification. Nursing certification required or ability to complete within 1 year of hire.
