Position Summary

To continue delivering best-in-class seedlings and innovative agriculture solutions to field growers, we are seeking a Maintenance Manager.

The Maintenance Manager is responsible of overseeing the maintenance and repairs of Greenhouse, Production and other related supporting company infrastructure. Tasks include but are not limited to managing greenhouse repairs and maintenance, installing capital improvements including additional technology enhancements, maintaining boiler systems, diagnosing, repairing machinery, facilities and other company equipment as well as maintaining clean and safe locations. This is a hands-on position also responsible for directing and overseeing the work of maintenance employees and assigning projects and/ or specific tasks to ensure overall efficiency of all greenhouses, buildings, and growing areas. Business travel up to 50%.

Essential Functions (Duties and Responsibilities)

  • Provide leadership, training and direction to Maintenance employees, vendors and customers (internal/external) and direct supervision of assigned tasks.
  • Schedules and coordinates projects in logical steps and budgets the time necessary to meet each deadline.
  • Responsible for reviewing, assigning and managing all maintenance projects, repairs and other tasks as needed to ensure maximum efficiency in all buildings at Growers Transplanting, Inc.
  • Develops an effective preventative maintenance program for all critical machines, devices, equipment, and other infrastructure thus reducing downtime
  • Researches and proposes equipment upgrades or acquisitions geared towards better resource management and utilization
  • Cultivates strategic partnerships with suppliers and repair outlets balancing internal workload capacity and effectiveness
  • Partners with the Horticultural staff understanding crop cycles and scheduling repairs minimizing disruptions
  • Accounts for material, labor and other inputs during projects development and execution
  • Creates accurate cost reports for ownership, accounting, and other related departments
  • Plan and execute all maintenance short- and long-term strategic goals.
  • Develop and implement program and operating procedures for waste, recycling, machinery, equipment and other to reduce cost and environmental waste.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all machinery, equipment, grounds and facility is running accordingly. Repair and provide maintenance as needed.
  • Ensure that all company equipment is being used according to safety regulations or other protocols.
  • Ensure that schedules and budgets are followed.
  • Responsible for coordinating and assigning on-call/off hours for maintenance employees.
  • Partner with safety team on all governmental and OSHA compliance reporting. Form part of the safety committee at Growers Transplanting, Inc.
  • Develop and maintains good working relationship with other cross-functional departments and team members to ensure operations are running smoothly for Growers Transplanting, Inc.
  • Primary contact for after-hours for company gate, alarms, etc.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with environmental, food safety, safety rules and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Experience)

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and/or previous on the job training required.
  • Greenhouse maintenance experience desired.
  • 8+ years of experience in mechanical, electrical, or similar roles.
  • 7+ years of previous management experience, ability to direct the work of others and provide feedback.
  • Ability to create, read and understand manuals (i.e., safety, machinery, or other equipment procedures).
  • Excellent electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, HVAC and plumbing skills
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office knowledge (i.e. Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Thorough understanding of contracts, plans, specifications, and regulations.
  • Ability to manage multi-level projects effectively.
  • Ability work independently with minimal supervision and exercise good judgement while making important project decisions.
  • Ability to work long hours and weekends, if necessary.
  • On call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues that may arise.
  • Clear DMV record. Must be eligible for company sponsored vehicle insurance.

Physical Requirements

While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; frequently required to talk or hear; and occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
