Summary:

  • The main function of a manufacturing engineer is to apply engineering theory and principles to problems of industrial layout or manufacturing production.
  • A typical manufacturing engineer can make engineering drawings and read and interpret blueprints.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Study time, motion, methods, and speed involved in maintenance, production, and other operations to establish standard production rates and improve efficiency.
  • Review worker logs, product processing sheets, and specification sheets, to verify that records adhere to quality assurance specifications.
  • Review and approve work assignments following worker performance, machine capacity, production schedules, and anticipated delays.
  • Review charts, graphs, and diagrams to illustrate workflow, routing, floor layouts, material handling, and machine utilization.
  • Evaluate data and reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
  • Recommend modifications to existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within the limits of equipment capability.
  • Recommend revision to methods of operation, material handling, equipment layout, or other changes to increase production or improve standards.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering required.
  • 8-10 years of experience required.

Position’s Contributions to Work Group:

  • Establish process maps for manufacturing processes related to long-term strategic projects.
  • Document current state process documentation (SFMEAs, PFMEAs, Control Plans, etc.)
  • Establish new facility layouts and communicate requirements with machine integrators and tool builders.

Typical task breakdown:

  • Process mapping
  • SIPOC creation
  • Gather VOB/VOC
  • Document current state
  • Facilitate coordination with integrators & machine tool builders for capital assets and fixtures.
  • Connect with the Factory 4.0 team.
  • Understand the carbon footprint of new facilities.
  • Create new facility layouts, including facility and cost requirements.

Interaction with the team:

  • This job role will require interaction with the Strategic supply chain team.
  • Additional interaction may be needed with the design control team, manufacturing facilities, business resources, and other support roles.
  • This role will require interacting with external suppliers and integrators.

Work environment:

  • Supports Client Undercarriage product group, majority of the team is in the Peoria, IL area but there are team members located overseas and in remote locations.

Technical Skills

(Required)

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering-related field.
  • Manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Experience creating facility/plant layouts.
  • Experience identifying capital asset requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications and translate those to manufacturing requirements.
  • Experience with computer applications for general facility/plant layouts (such as AutoCAD).

(Desired)

  • Experience with forgings, castings, heat treatment, and welding.
