Under general supervision, performs mechanical duties in the repair and maintenance of City vehicles and equipment.
*This position performs duties deemed to be “safety-sensitive" and is therefore subjected to random drug testing under the City’s policies*
Essential Job Functions:
- Diagnoses and repairs City-owned vehicles and equipment, including but not limited to automobiles, trucks, agricultural equipment, construction equipment, emergency vehicles, refuse trucks, and small engines.
- Outfits new vehicles and equipment bought by the City.
- Fabricates parts to repair or alter equipment.
- Assists in the maintenance and repair of division facilities.
- Assists with preventative maintenance on City vehicles.
- Researches technical information pertaining to equipment and machinery regarding proper diagnostics and repair.
- Maintains personal tools with City-funded tool allowance.
- Makes field service calls as necessary.
- Maintains and repairs onboard computer systems.
- Maintains shop equipment.
- Performs monthly generator checks.
- Welds and cuts materials in the repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
- Assists fellow coworkers with a diagnosis on problematic write-ups.
- Responds to after-hours emergencies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by one to two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Class B CDL Driver's License issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of relevant city, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies.
- Knowledge of the function, repair, and maintenance of all types of construction, utility, refuse, and emergency vehicles and equipment.
- Skill in the use of power tools, hand tools, and shop equipment.
- Skill in reading and interpreting technical manuals and schematics.
- Skill in the use of computers and job-related software programs.
- Skill in the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of city vehicles and equipment.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
- Ability to operate computers for data entry, word processing and/or accounting purposes.
- Ability to operate and repair small/light equipment, such as power tools.
- Ability to operate and repair medium equipment and machinery, such as vehicles or commercial mowers.
- Ability to operate and repair heavy or complex machinery, such as vehicles and construction equipment.
- Ability to repair, develop or install telecommunications systems.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.24 - $26.31 per hour
