Honeycomb Medical Group is a primary care practice with four offices in Memphis, Tennessee, and branches in Holly Springs and Senatobia, Mississippi. The Medical Assistant – Phlebotomist helps providers with the delivery of patient care, providing basic triage, and helping to ensure safe care is provided.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Reviews and prepares medical records to ensure completeness prior to patient exam, obtaining missing documentation. Documents clinic visit, observations, and related activities.
• Assists with initiation of patient history and physical assessment. Assists nurses and physicians with physical exams and simple in-house procedures.
• Checks patient vital signs and takes body measurements, documenting results in patient chart.
• Prepares and maintains exam and treatment rooms, cleaning after patient discharges to ensure a clean and sanitized environment.
• Maintains supplies inventory and ensures patient care equipment is clean and properly functioning, reporting defective equipment and supplies to supervisor.
• Perform phlebotomy procedures. Collects specimens and prepares them for outside lab and performs urinalysis on urine specimens. Prepares lab results for physician to sign.
• Administers breathing treatments and injections, performs EKGs
• Answers phone calls, relaying patient requests and questions to appropriate individuals. Explains provider instructions to patient, as appropriate.
• Provides teaching to patients and families within scope of knowledge base.
• Assists with scheduling/referral of patients for specific treatments.
• Responds to medical emergencies and administers first aid as appropriate.
• Performs lab duties and other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Certified Medical Assistant (Required)
• High school or equivalent (Required)
• Medical Assisting/Phlebotomy experience: 1 year (Required)
• CPR Certification (Required)
• BLS Certification (Preferred)

Physical Requirements:

The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion. Must have good balance and coordination. The physical requirements of this position are medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently. The Medical Assistant (Phlebotomist) is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading. Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact. Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
