The University of Tennessee, College of Veterinary Medicine, invites applications for the position of MRI Technologist. The primary purpose of this position is to perform magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures for interpretation by veterinary radiologists using high-field MRI equipment. The position is responsible for scanning with little supervision, ensuring the safety of patients, staff, and equipment. Reviews studies for overall quality and transfer to the Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS). Properly trains Medical Residents on the safety and function, principles, measurement factors, and proper positioning of patients. Communicates information promptly to radiologist and in-house staff regarding imaging progress. Sets protocols for routine projects as well as research projects. Fulfills Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) responsibilities.
Typical Responsibilities:
- Performs magnetic resonance imaging procedures for interpretation by veterinary radiologist.
- Provides daily organization of large and small animal procedures under general anesthesia.
- Reviews requests submitted by clinician/radiologist for proper procedure.
- Positions patient for exam to ensure good image quality, safety, and accessibility to vital monitoring, IV, etc.
- Assists anesthesia personnel (veterinary nurses, residents, and faculty) with intubation, IV, premeds and proper restraint when needed.
- Archives completed studies to PACS. Scans and reviews data on disk; performs pertinent reconstructions (i.e., Multiplanar Reformation, Maximum Intensity Projection, Source to Skin Distance).
- Demonstrates competency in use of PACS, CIS and RIS.
- Prints film and burns CDs of completed studies as needed.
- Inputs proper charges for completed procedures.
- Performs daily quality assurance and calibration on Veterinary Imaging Service equipment (MRI and CT).
- Notifies service engineers if any errors occur.
- Notifies CVM of any equipment unavailability.
- Instructs radiology residents on function, parameters, positioning, and protocol of different MRI procedures to ensure they are able to run the scanner, if needed.
- Assists in other areas of radiology when needed, performing wide array of radiographic procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associates degree from an American Medical Association-approved school of Radiologic Technology. Certification in Radiology and MRI.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an American Medical Association-approved school of Radiologic Technology.
- 2+ years of MRI Experience with 1.5 Tesla MRI or greater field strength.
- Training on Siemens MRI.
