Job Title: NSLP Menu Reviewer

Reports To: NSLP Contract Manager

Availability: Flexible work schedule, approx. 15-20 hours/week

Pay Structure: Flat rate based on number of menus, $135-$250

Bonus Tier: Annual bonus is provided based on company growth, performance, and contribution to team

Position Overview 

As a NSLP Menu Reviewer, you will complete the menu analysis portion of the Administrative Review. You will review the supporting menu documentation (nutrition facts labels, recipes, production records, and CN labels or Product Formulation Statements) submitted by the sponsor to verify the meal pattern requirements are met for each grade group for a one-week period. The USDA Menu Compliance Worksheet tool will be completed for each unique menu. A menu results report will then be completed for each unique menu based on the USDA worksheet to include any corrective action and technical assistance to bring the menus into compliance. 

This position requires a strong knowledge of NSLP meal pattern requirements and calculating meal pattern crediting using manufacturer nutrition information, recipes, and the Food Buying Guide. The menu reviewer will track all work and complete reports within the CNRS website. Communication with the NSLP Menu team and Director of Menu Analysis will take place on Microsoft Teams. An eye to detail is essential along with effective writing skills to convey menu findings to the sponsors. The position requires the ability to work independently and efficiently to meet timelines.  

There may also be the opportunity for hourly rate-based projects throughout the school year. This may include projects such as: menu analysis, menu writing, software database work, and other projects related to supporting sponsors with menu compliance.  

Principal Duties and Responsibilities 

• Complete menu analysis.

• Review all required menu documentation submitted by the sponsor to verify the meal pattern requirements are met for each grade group for a one-week period.

• Complete menu results report for each menu based on USDA worksheet.

• Calculate meal pattern crediting using manufacturer nutrition information.

• Provide friendly and effective customer service to assist sponsors throughout the review process to ensure timely completion of all areas of review. 

• Collaborate with team members to ensure a consistent work product across all areas of review. 

• Work alongside State Agency partners to fulfill the needs of each specific contract,

which may include regularly scheduled calls, training, and report creation. 

• Utilize office websites to maintain call logs, review specifics and communicate with sponsors from a specific location. 

• Ability to recognize deficiencies and irregularities and recommend methods of correction. 

• Additional responsibilities and duties may be assigned, when appropriate.

Knowledge Required 

• Bachelor’s Degree in human nutrition, accounting, or related field. Work experience

may be substituted, when applicable. 

• Knowledge of Federal and State Regulations pertaining to child nutrition programs, specifically USDA Food Buying Guide.

• At least two years of prior school foodservice or NSLP menu planning/analysis.

• Experience with child nutrient analysis software programs preferred.

Skills Required 

• Self-initiative for project development and implementation. 

• Strong interpersonal skills and ease with telephone and in-person contact. 

• Effective organizational skills, including ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. 

• Proficient with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams (and other collaboration apps – i.e., Zoom). 

Additional Requirements 

• Fingerprint clearance (as applicable) will be required. 

• Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required.
