Summary

The primary responsibility of this position is to act as a manager of General Refining and Water Control for Heraeus Precious Metals, North America LLC in accordance with Heraeus World Wide management principles. The Manager GR, and Water Control is responsible for the day-today execution of all refining, water control and maintenance related processes to meet customer demands while maintaining a reasonable margin. He ensures compliance with all regulations. He is fully responsible for all issues related to his departments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned as required):

  • Leads the Refining teams of GR and WC in the day-today execution of PM refining, wastewater treatment and exhaust control.
  • Maximizes and measures the productivity of all refining related functions and adjusts manpower, methods and training where needed to increase productivity, efficiency and safety.
  • Optimizes precious metal throughput, lead time and quality in the whole refining plant.
  • Optimizes Precious Metal backlog from an economical point of view.
  • Develops and Adjusts the Maintenance Department to perform all preventive maintenance, repair, construction, corrosion prevention and support tasks of the whole HMP SFS side in a timely manner and in accordance to industry standards.
  • Defines, introduces and applies together with the P&D Department and our major site in Hanau/Germany standards for construction, material of construction, corrosion prevention and preventive maintenance. All standards need to be equal to or exceed minimum industry standards.
  • Leads the Maintenance team in the day to day work.
  • Develops and executes together with production supervisors and Process Development a preventive maintenance program which will reduce breakdowns and still stands to an absolute minimum.
  • Supports Process Development in execution of Construction, Engineering and development projects.
  • Ensures that corrosion protection is defined, performed and checked in all areas.
  • Adjusts manpower and working schedule under special consideration of smooth production at Heraeus and costs.
  • Reviews overtime and shift handover time and costs in all areas of his responsibility.
  • Assures precious metal security during all processes and especially during handovers to adjacent departments.
  • Assures that all data necessary for accurate metal tracking is timely delivered to the metal management.
  • Is responsible for the reduction of accidents (occupational, reportable, recordable and minor) in his area to zero.
  • Assures safety and environmental training for his staff.
  • Is responsible for the supporting and following Quality standards.
  • Works with support staff to assure employees’ and the company’s adherence to quality, safety and environmental standards that exceed the industry minimum.
  • Together with Process Development implements new processes and technology. Assures that new technologies and processes match the needs of the precious metal refining. Manager GR and WC initiates Process Development Tasks for his department and signs the transfer and completion of the Task into production.
  • Defines quality/specification of all raw materials (chemicals and supplies) and defines an ordering procedure in his departments that assures the on time delivery of this raw materials.
  • Assures that all raw materials used are in accordance to the specification.
  • Assures that all raw materials are used economically.
  • Assures career development and contingency planning for his staff.
  • Manages time and attendance issues for plant EES
  • Responsible for employer relations and conduction investigations.
  • Oversees the safe operation and conduct of the assigned team members.
  • Responsible for hiring efforts for production operation positions
  • Will oversee provisions for training and training documentation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for the planning, installation, maintenance and servicing of the devices, machinery and equipment in the department pursuant to the legal regulations in force,
  • Responsible for timely communication of information to the VP Quality and Regulatory Compliance or his designee regarding any planned changes and new investments (as relevant under environmental or occupational protection aspects),
  • Responsible for the operation of the plants and the protection of the staff pursuant to the regulations and obligations in force,
  • Responsible for orderly recruitment, control and training of subordinates,
  • Responsible for coordinating all activity related to fire protection,
  • Responsible for coordinating with Safety for all employee medical concerns,
  • Responsible for developing, communicating, and training of operational and working instructions,
  • Responsible for immediate notification of any deviations from the operation in accordance with the regulations and of any industrial accidents to the Vice President of Regulatory Compliance or his designee,
  • Responsible for the security of Precious Metals and adherence to the company precious metal guidelines. Reports any breach in security or missing metals immediately to the Vice President of Regulatory Compliance or his designee,
  • The immediate notification of the responsible Vice President in Santa Fe Springs regarding any Human Resources, Quality, Regulatory or Financial issues,
  • Responsible for complying to the company code of conduct and for reporting any deviations to any of the company Compliance Officers,
  • Responsible for reporting any suspicious activity as defined by the anti money laundering federal regulations,
  • Responsible for adhering to and enforcing the US Heraeus Handbook and the local Site Employee Handbook.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise and directs all production and process activities. Also, responsible for the direction of all shift and department personnel to include investigations, relations, performance and separations through coordination, and evaluation. Carries out Supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • An experienced manager with appropriate industry experience, preferably in the precious metals industry.
  • An energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards and an appropriate professional image.
  • A strategic individual with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong operational focus.
  • A well-organized and self-directed individual who is "politically savvy" and a team player.
  • An intelligent and articulate individual who can relate to people at all levels of an organization and possesses excellent communication skills.
  • Masters or Bachelor Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering; preferred with a minimum of 10 years working experience.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, sit and use hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
