Job description
General Summary:
Provides supervision of the Parks and Recreation Department and other seasonal programs as assigned. Performs work related to the maintenance of a park, landscaped areas, and FDL facility areas as assigned. Primary duties include, but are not limited to; mowing trimming, pruning, watering, raking, painting, and landscaping, to maintain an aesthetically pleasing site. Secondary duties include, but are not limited to; janitorial, custodial, and cleaning up litter and/or refuse and disposing of properly.
Position Responsibilities:
- Provides supervision to staff in the department and other staff if located off-site, when necessary. This includes completing their annual appraisals, approving leave time, monitoring their work productivity, ensuring proper coverage of duties when they are on leave, seeking and providing training opportunities for their duties, and any disciplinary action necessary.
- Promotes and develops employment, work experiences, and training for workers.
- Coordinates work assignments and daily duties of departmental staff.
- Facilitates departmental group orientation and trainings for staff to increase department capacity.
- Maintains files both electronic and manual file systems typing, and prepares correspondence for all programs under their supervision.
- Compiles and prepares performance surveys on workers.
- Works with Division staff to assign qualified workers to the appropriate departments.
- Communicates and updates the Public Works Manager on daily activities, upcoming projects, and any areas of concern.
- Travels to multiple work locations throughout the work day and may include trailering equipment.
- Develop and manage the budget for the department. Compiles and analyzes expenditures and projects costs for all.
- Oversees all purchases of equipment, supplies and coordinates equipment inventory for department supervised, in coordination with the Public Works Manager.
- Coordinates the repair or replacement of equipment to ensure the equipment is ready for use and all safety requirements are met.
- Prepares and submits quarterly reports to the Public Works Manager for the Reservation Business Committee.
- Monitors program participants assigned to a job site and verifies hours worked, billing of hours worked and completion of work assigned.
- Conducts staff meetings on a regular basis.
- Performs Park Rangers' duties as needed.
- Appropriate work attire is required.
- Must attend all mandatory department trainings.
- Ensures confidentiality of financial records and all records for employees and/or clients.
- Displays a responsive and professional manner in promptly responding to all requests, complaints, and problems.
- Recognizes that each employee is a representative of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and is responsible for demonstrating courtesy, respect, and sensitivity to the needs of all others, including visitors and co-workers.
- Represents the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and the department in a positive and professional manner in the community.
- Required to maintain proper attendance including reporting to work on time in accordance with applicable policies.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area.
- Due to changes and modifications in the job from time to time, employees are required to be flexible and assume other responsibilities assigned by management as deemed necessary.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds is required.
- Ability to move, climb, and work on all types of uneven surfaces and ladders at heights up to 30 feet is required.
- Walking, standing, bending, stooping, climbing, pushing, pulling are required.
- Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, including work in adverse weather conditions.
Position Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
- One year of experience in a parks and recreation, groundskeeping, and general park and grounds maintenance, or other closely related field is required.
- Demonstrated experience in a supervisory or lead position is required.
- Knowledge of computer applications to include word processing, databases and/or data entry, spreadsheets and Microsoft Outlook is required.
- Ability to use power and hand tools effectively and safely is required.
- Ability to trim trees, cut lawns, landscape, and otherwise keep grounds in good physical condition is required.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.
- Ability to work independently and establish priorities is required.
- Attention to detail and accuracy is required.
- Ability to establish professional and harmonious working relationships on all projects and with all parties involved.
- Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with the Fond du Lac Reservation’s Personnel Policies.
- Subject to pre-employment and annual background checks.
- Subject to immunization review and submitted proof of required vaccinations.
- Travel is required.
