Qualifications:


  • Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate with Counseling endorsement
  • Master of Arts in Counseling
  • Three (3) years of classroom teaching experience at any grade level
  • Knowledgeable in current counseling approaches and behavioral change techniques
  • Ability to maintain a working relationship with students, staff and parents
  • Ability to function independently and make informed decisions
  • Ability to work with a diverse population


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain student records
  • Counsel groups or individual students through the development of educational and career plans
  • Counsel small groups and individual students with problems; refers severe problems to appropriate community resources
  • Consult with teachers, staff, and parents regarding meeting the developmental needs of students.
  • Conduct counseling activities in the classroom in conjunction with administration and teachers
  • Consult with teachers to facilitate the infusion of counseling learning activities into the regular education curricula
  • Respond to crisis situations when appropriate
  • Assist with district-mandated tests
  • Participate in counselor workshops, meetings, seminars, etc.
  • Perform other such duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Knowledge of accepted instructional techniques and methods working with children
  • Knowledge of data usage, including research, collection, analysis, synthesis, interpretation, and reporting
  • Ability to do perform multiple functions simultaneously
  • Ability to do detailed mathematical computations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Produce accurate work and complete assignments with minimal supervision
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations
  • Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents and community members
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws, district procedures and Board policies
  • Ability to handle confrontation and conflict without an emotional response

SUMMARY: Provides support to the instructional process as a teacher with specific responsibility for supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas. This includes developing lesson plans and delivering group and/or individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines, collaborating with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues. Additionally, the classroom teacher is to respond to a wide range of inquiries from students’ parents or guardians regarding the instructional program and student progress.


Computer Proficiency
: Demonstrated general proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
