The Town of South Kingstown has an exciting opportunity for someone with animal care experience to join the team at the South Kingstown Animal Shelter. This highly visible position supports the operations of the Animal Shelter, and requires someone with exceptional people skills, a love of animals, the ability to multi-task, and stay organized. This position reports to the Police Captain of Administration, and works under the guidance of the Animal Shelter Manager and Assistant Shelter Manager. Duties include receiving members of the public, answering in person and telephone requests for information and assistance, preparation of paperwork related to the operation of the shelter and adoption of animals, assisting with maintaining records and files of the animal shelter and the animals housed there. This position is responsible for assisting with providing for the daily care and sustenance of impounded animals, and disinfecting cages, kennels, and equipment.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or GED equivalent, and several years of experience in the handling and maintenance of animals. Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science or related field preferred. Candidates should have considerable knowledge of the care and handling of dogs, cats, and other small animals; knowledge of canine and feline disease, behavior, and breed requirements and characteristics; and knowledge and application of sanitary and disinfectant procedures.

This part time position pays $17.03 per hour and works 14 hours a week, with a schedule of Sunday 7am to 2pm and Monday 7am to 2pm, with opportunities to fill in on other days on a limited as needed basis.
