We are seeking a part-time Payroll Specialist to work remote.
The part-time Payroll Specialist is to process payroll accurately and maintain payroll tax accounts. Also will help to ensure state and federal legal compliance in terms of payroll processing.
Duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Responsible for the processing of payroll for various entities
- Ensures that all tax accounts are kept up to date, setting up online access and closing out accounts as needed
- Ensures synchronization of information within payroll system and payroll vendor as it pertains to tax accounts, responds to agency tax notices, and submits tax invoices for payment
- Gathers documentation to ensure that tax accounts are up to date as it pertains to TPA, POA and other required documentation
- Works closely with Payroll Director to ensure accuracy of information in payroll system as it relates to state and local tax accounts
- Processing of employee self-service changes to direct deposit, tax withholding and personal information
- Duties include maintaining, balancing, and auditing of time and attendance records
- Verifying employee’s voluntary and involuntary deductions, ensures that deductions are processed accurately
- Processes and responds to all garnishment withholding orders ensuring compliance with withholding instructions
- Responsible for calculating and processing of retroactive payments related to salary changes
- Balances and reconciles commissions, payroll adjustments, taxes and exceptions to employees pay data
- Processes off cycle checks as needed to ensure timely payment of wages
- Ensures that payroll processing and documentation is in line with SOX compliance requirements
- Responsible for providing payroll support to the B Riley Financial management team and other employees as needed
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Processes bi-weekly payroll accurately and effectively – and in accordance with state and federal law
- Set up SUTA, Local and W/H accounts in various states, ensures that accounts are in sync with payroll vendor
- Handle all aspects of payroll processing including the transmission of payroll, special payments, review of uploaded hours and perform calculations, day to day maintenance, direct deposit, and entry of employee records such as withholdings, direct deposits, terms/adds, and, run off cycle check runs as needed
- Assists with processing of final pays
- Prepares 401K Transfer files
- Processes approved merit increases, commission, and bonus payments
- Assist employees with payroll related questions and discrepancies
- Assist with year-end process to ensure timely issuance of accurate Form W-2s and to ensure setup of accurate payroll and benefit deductions the first pay period of the next year
PREREQUISITE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EDUCATION:
- Five years’ experience in a payroll/HR environment, including in-house payroll processing experience utilizing HRIS software or alike system; preferably UKG Pro or Ceridian Dayforce
- Knowledge in setting up accounts with state and local agencies and understanding of tax fillings
- Demonstrated computer skills to include Microsoft office products, particularly Excel (knowledge of Pivot tables, excel formulas and able to work with large data in excel is required) and Microsoft Word.
- HRIS software required.
