Patient Access Scheduler

The Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) whose mission is to enhance the fiscal and financial stability, accountability and integrity of the Government of the District of Columbia is in search of a Patient Access Scheduler. This position is located in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO), Not for Profit Hospital Corporation (NFPHC), United Medical Center (UMC). The incumbent will be responsible and accountable for the professional, accurate, and prompt scheduling and pre-registration of patients for diagnostic testing, procedures and admission.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Obtaining accurate and complete demographic and financial information for precertification/authorization
- Validating insurance benefits and limitations
- Reviewing inpatient and outpatient admission forms to reconcile Financial Class (FC) status
- Interacting with ancillary departments to obtain information that may facilitate patient scheduling
- Interacting with and maintaining effective communication with insurance carriers, patients, physicians, hospital staff, coworkers and other customers to improve patient scheduling process
- Communicating any scheduling issues to the Patient Access Manager and making recommendations for resolution
- Identifying company resource constraints and communicating to Patient Access Manager
- Reviewing all transactions at the end of shift for accuracy
- Serving as a backup for the Patient Access Representative when necessary
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Two (2) years of progressive work experience performing the related duties and responsibilities such as gathering patient data, verifying insurance information, and knowledge of medical terminology and coding. At least one (1) year should have included experience in insurance eligibility and precertification. Must have experience working in a hospital or healthcare setting.
