Job Summary and Qualifications

Supervises food service supervisors and employees in the daily operations of patient meal preparation, catering, and utility services.

1. Directs patient dining and utility personnel in the production and service of patient meals according to the forecasted menu. Plans and executes services for requested catering. Directs the utility staff in the daily operations of the dish room, and department cleaning.

  • Direct daily operations of patient meal services at patient care units to ensure employees have appropriate equipment, inventory, and resources to perform their jobs and meet goals and deadlines
  • Provides input into the hiring of new employees and interviews with manager input.
  • Assists Supervisors with orientation of new employees, in-service education, and ongoing training for all employees in area of responsibility.
  • Counsels and evaluates assigned personnel on an ongoing timely basis.
  • Reviews monthly work schedules prepared by Supervisors while maintaining the master scheduled positions and FTE’s. Supports supervisors responsible for finding coverage for staffing shortages and PTO relief.
  • Direct daily operations of patient meal services at patient care units to ensure employees have appropriate equipment, inventory, and resources to perform their jobs and meet goals and deadlines
  • Conducts regular patient rounding to improve customer satisfaction and provide service recovery.
  • Reviews employee Kronos times for accuracy, tardiness, and absenteeism on a weekly basis.
  • Monitors overtime and can effectively justify overtime hours if approved.
  • Oversees persons responsible for nourishment room stocking.

2. Serves patients to meet optimum satisfaction while adhering to all HCA and budget guidelines. Assures patient meal service begins on time with high quality foods and service to meet or exceed the patients’ expectations.

  • Ensures Supervisors conduct line-up meetings with production and Room Service staff to assure consistency of food quality, portioning, and to anticipate potential concerns during meal service.
  • Insure patient late tray services are conducted appropriately.
  • Conserves on utilization of disposable items and reduces china/flatware cost through proper handling and storage.
  • Achieves optimum utilization of staffing to ensure high productivity and smooth operation of patient dining/utility services. Stays within budgeted labor allowances.
  • Inspects equipment to insure proper operation, cleaning and preventive maintenance.

3. Ensures that quality assurance, safety, and security measures are followed.

  • Monitors QA/QC activities, ensuring that program objectives are met, and submits all QA/QC information to Operations Manager at monthly designated times.
  • Reports equipment problems to Management & follows-up as needed.
  • Observes that employee utilize safe techniques in the performance of tasks i.e., proper lifting, food handling, proper uniform and shoes, cut resistant gloves, slip/trip/fall prevention. d) Perform audits and prepare reports.

4. Communicates and cooperates with all staff to achieve facility & departmental goals and quality services.

  • Communicates update of daily activities with supervisors and management.
  • Maintains rapport with staff members and nursing service. c) Provides input into ways to improve/enhance departmental efficiency and morale.

What qualifications you will need:
  • Registered Food Service Manager (RFSM) must be obtained within 7 days of employment start date
  • High School Graduate / GED

This role requires you to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 based on local, state and /or federal law or regulations (unless a medical or religious exemption is approved).
