Job Description:

Brookline Wellness Educators may teacher physcial education to students in Kindergarten through grade 8, and Health Education to students in grade 7 and 8. Wellness educators are responsible for creating a safe, encouraging, enjoyable, and respectful learning environment that fosters, promotes, and develops the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional growth of children. Our talented team employs a variety of age and developmentally appropriate instructional methods and materials designed to meet the needs of all learners. The ideal candidate collaborates well with colleagues to teach physical education and health education to a diverse group of students. The candidate can successfully establish strong relationships with students, parents, and community.


Essential Duties:

  • Plan an age and developmentally appropriate physical education and health program that focuses on skill development, cooperation, and successful participation and meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of all students.
  • Plan, organize, and deliver lessons aligned with the Physical Education National Standards and Grade Level Outcomes for students in grades K-8.
  • Explain, demonstrate, and analyze the basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of motor skills and movement patterns.
  • Utilize Polar GoFit assessment and heart rate technology.
  • Implement authentic assessment to determine student growth and effectively communicate growth data to students, parents, administration, and the community, as necessary.
  • Establish and maintain standards for student behavior that afford a healthy, safe, and enjoyable learning environment.
  • Provide appropriate safety instruction and provide safety checks on equipment, gymnasium, and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students.
  • Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.

Additional Duties:

  • Participate in professional growth opportunities.
  • Attend and participate in department and curriculum development meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching license in physical education recognized by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) certification
