Principal Responsibilities:

  • Improve production plant performance by driving process improvements including tracking and eliminating downtime, equipment reliability and integrity, improving maintenance, improving first pass yield, and increasing production rates.
  • Design and develop project plans (new systems, upgrades, efficiency improvements, and maintenance projects) and execute the plan, using available resources, while maintaining strong timeline and cost controls according to safety, quality, and business requirements.
  • Manage project budgets, up to $250,000.00 US, with a cumulative budget of $1MM-$2MM.
  • Maintain auditable compliance with OSHA PSM, EPA RMP and NJTCPA standards and policies, plus proactive collaboration with operators and plant management to address safety and quality concerns.
  • Transfer projects from the Engineering Phase to Operations, including completion of project specific documentation such as installation drawings, SOP’s, risk assessment/HAZOPs, PSSR/commissioning procedures, customer presentations/progress reports, turnover manuals, Lessons Learned/project close-out reports, etc.
  • Support start-up, commissioning, and qualification of equipment.
  • Uphold a collaborative and proactive attitude towards safety and quality standards.
  • Supervise contractors and vendors as part of any project, complying with all Messer and appropriate safety requirements.
  • Focus on best practices related to capital equipment cost savings, reduced maintenance costs, and enhanced system reliability.
  • Identify opportunities for standardization and create opportunities for sharing best practices, and leveraging knowledge within electronics through development of fully documented standard designs.
  • Support corporate and division goals and productivity gains.
  • Develop project I/O’s in accordance with company accounting procedures. Track and manage project budgets throughout project and close in accordance with company accounting procedures.
  • Perform and/or support the design of gas systems, including development of Process Flow Diagrams, P&IDs, BOM’s, and fabrication drawings.
  • Manage assigned projects, involving multiple team members, where opportunities for improvement exist in efficiency, capacities, safety, yield, etc.
  • Provide engineering and operational support to the plant, including the production, manufacturing, analytical, and cylinder preparation departments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Safety

  • Understand and adhere to company safe work policies.
  • Follow lone worker requirements.
  • Promote a safe work environment.
  • Report safety incidents and near misses.
  • Report any unsafe conditions, environmental concerns, and process problems to management immediately.
  • Contribute to the improvement of the Safety, Health, Environment and Quality programs.
  • Apply the HWP process, LOTO and energy isolation procedures as required for company and contractor personnel.
  • Follow EMOC procedure for all changes to process and operating procedures.
  • Maintain site security.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience in an engineering or operations management environment preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in industrial gases and cryogenics; purification, storage, vaporization, distribution systems and ancillary equipment, especially experience working with hazardous, toxic, or flammable gases is highly desired

Skills:

  • Experience creating and editing P&IDs using AutoCAD.
  • Understanding of process automation concepts, programming experience a plus.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Commercial awareness.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office software.
  • The ability to communicate technical concepts effectively within Messer and to external clients in person and in writing.
