Summary

Assists offset press operators in the operation of presses to maintain quality and production, while learning processes and procedures to properly operate the equipment. This position receives direction from one or more press operators, and reports to the department manager.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Moves paper from warehouse and stages at relevant press;
• Loads and operates paper feeder, and alerting operator to problems;
• Maintains side guide and head stop register;
• Services ink fountain to ensure continual flow of production, and preps fountain for subsequent shifts;
• Mixes chemicals and ink when needed;
• Cleans blankets and assists with changing blankets and plates;
• Performs daily clean-up of press room;
• Assists with maintenance and repair of press;
• Observes press operation and notifies operator of problems;
• Learns overall operation of press.

Required Skills & Abilities

• Basic printing knowledge;
• Willingness and ability to learn new skills;
• Ability to read, comprehend and adhere to simple instructions;
• Ability to write simple correspondence;
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent;
• Minimum one (1) to three (3) months related experience (including vocational training), preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of standing and walking;
• Must be able to perform work using stairs and catwalks;
• Must be able to occasionally bend, kneel and crawl;
• Must be able to regularly lift and move up to 50 lbs at one time;
• Manual dexterity and physical strength necessary to operate equipment and make adjustments or repairs;
• Must have visual acuity to operate equipment and monitor production.

Work Environment

• Performed in production setting;
• Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts;
• Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles
• Occasional exposure to vibration;
• Noise level typically loud.
