Your duties will include responsibility for the design, manufacture, procurement and test for one or more propulsion system components and/or assemblies. This job requires coordination with customers, suppliers, test facilities, and other related fields including manufacturing, subcontracts, quality, structure design, analysis, systems engineering, and integration with affected subsystems and facilities. You will develop and maintain product performance specifications, statements of work, and supplier data requirements for components, and will be responsible for review of test data and certification of hardware in support of propulsion systems used on a variety of missions.
  • Lead Subsystem integration tasks and information requests on an as-needed basis.
  • Lead the conceptual development, requirements definition, and design of propulsion components
  • Ability to perform structural and dynamic analysis
  • Perform trade studies to select the appropriate design solution
  • Develop product performance specifications, statements of work, and supplier data requirements for components
  • Maintain engineering drawings, specifications, and technical analyses to support systems and components
  • Independently develop and provide design solutions, of varying complexity, using solid models, detailed drawings, and release of engineering work products.
  • Independently review requirements, from various sources (instrumentation, dynamics, stress, systems, thermal, manufacturing, etc.) to ensure that applicable requirements are flowed into the detailed design of assigned products.
  • Support dynamic test definitions, requirements development, test monitoring, data reduction, and comparison to analysis efforts.
  • Support production meetings and manufacturing & test anomaly/discrepancy resolution
  • Evaluate, select, and own the technical aspects of the procurement from selected hardware suppliers
  • Provide user documentation and recommendations to data packages to support peer and customer reviews, present analysis data to engineering teams, customer technical representatives, and Program Office personnel at technical interchange meetings and design review. Basic Qualifications:
  • Ability to understand and perform or review first order analysis in fluids, statics and dynamics, heat transfer/ thermal
  • Extensive knowledge of propulsion component development and system integration
  • Ability to own technical challenges and implement solutions. Desire to undertake innovative problem solving.
  • Leadership of requirement development, management, verification, and validation.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical and propulsion engineering principles and processes
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with adjacent fields (systems engineering, electronics, stress/thermal analysis, configuration management, production, test, quality...). Leadership of these teams is expected.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Willingness to mentor junior engineers.
Desired Skills:
  • Prior experience with one or more of the following propulsion component categories:
  • Monopropellant or bipropellant engines/thrusters
  • Tanks/pressure vessels
  • Propulsion system valves or other flow control devices
  • Pressure Transducers, other electrical components or relevant electrical hardware experience
  • Electric Propulsion technology
  • Propulsion subsystem leadership experience
  • CAD modeling and drafting experience with propulsion hardware
  • Proficient with Fluid Mechanics and Analysis
  • Familiarity with Propulsion component design, system integration, and spacecraft mission operations
  • Significant Experience with requirement development and management
  • Previous ownership of a specific propulsion component's design, requirements, or certification
  • Propulsion system integration experience
  • Experience with responsibility for mechanical hardware and systems
  • Additive manufacturing experience
  • Familiar with design for Manufacturability (DFM)

Ability to Work Remotely: Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in Colorado or Washington is $118,100 - $226,400. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full time employees: accrue 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO); receive 40 hours of Granted PTO annually for incidental absences; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of PTO per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO is prorated based on hours worked and start date during the calendar year.

This position is incentive plan eligible.
