Job Purpose: You are a strategic and focused communicator, collaborator, and ambassador. You develop and execute a strategic public relations program that creates awareness, builds affinity, and advances organizational objectives.
Schedule: Full-time; M-F, with occasional evening and weekend flexibility needed
Location: Up to 80% remote, with 1-2 days per week on-site or at various locations around the Twin Cities
Pay: $57,000-62,000

What you will be doing:
Strategy — Develop and implement public relations strategies to advance organizational goals and initiatives. Respond proactively to issues and incidents that require public relations or crisis communications support.
Content — Develop content and pitch stories. Write media releases and other content.
Training — Coach AHS leaders and colleagues through interviews and develop media readiness skills
External Relationship Building — Develop relationships with journalists, thought leaders, influencers, and policymakers. Be an ambassador and a champion for AHS.
Collaboration — Partner with teams across the organization to build a strong understanding of AHS programs and objectives. Work closely with other internal experts to develop solutions to our integrated work. Coordinate and participate in media appearances.
Communication — Act as a spokesperson. Listen, pay attention, and be a responsible steward of information. Distill and convey information in a clear, complete, and timely manner in alignment with organizational messaging.
Support —Advise on communication strategies and developing positioning for the organization’s broader initiatives. Support the execution of public policy strategies.

What we are looking for:
Experience — Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in public relations, media relations, or a related field.
Computer Skills — Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Communication — Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, must have ability to work independently and partner collaboratively with external and internal customers and departments.
Adaptability and Emotional Intelligence — Strong critical thinking skills and a high degree of emotional intelligence. Ability to solve problems and work positively, professionally, and with close attention to detail in a variety of situations.
Schedule — Availability to work during operational hours with the expectation to work occasional evening and weekend shifts.
Transportation — Reliable transportation is required to travel to media appearances and between sites.
Emotional Capabilities — Must be able to handle the physical and emotional aspect of work in an animal shelter environment, including the humane use of euthanasia. Must have a high level of resiliency.
