The Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) is the world’s most comprehensive education, rehabilitation and service program serving individuals of all ages who are deaf, blind, deafblind and multi-disabled and their families. Founded in 1858, AIDB serves more than 36,000 infants, toddlers, children, adults and seniors with hearing and vision loss throughout Alabama each year.
Our services literally span a lifetime including five campuses in Talladega, ten regional centers located in Birmingham, Dothan, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery, Talladega, Tuscaloosa, Shoals, Opelika and Decatur with programs that range from early and senior intervention, traditional and nontraditional education services in residential and outreach settings and a manufacturing facility that is the state’s largest employer of adults who are blind and deaf
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
· Must be Deaf or Hard of Hearing
· Must be knowledgeable of technology available to assist with effective communication with families.
· Must have SKI-HI Deaf Mentor certification
· Must have a sign language proficiency level of ADVANCED or above
· Must provide documentation of sign language proficiency evaluation (SCPI available through AIDB)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor's or Master's degree with certification in Deaf Education DESIRED
· Experience working with individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing or deafblind
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
· Maintain records and documentation in a timely and organized manner in compliance with AIDB standards.
· Provide the family with information, skills, and supports related to enhancing the child’s development of skills
· .Provide weekly home-based services to families with deaf, hard of hearing or deafblind children, age birth to three years of age.
· Teach and model visual communication and American Sign Language (ASL) to families with deaf, hard of hearing or deafblind children.
· Assist in planning and participate in all regional center activities, i.e. REAL Retreat, Deaf Awareness, educational workshops, social/community events, and/or statewide programs.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
· Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB
SALARY: $25.54 Provisional Scale PH Rank 01
$31.92 Professional Scale PH Rank 01
Direct deposit is required.
