BASIC FUNCTION

To represent Vermont State University as a student recruiter by conducting outreach to prospective students from lists provided by our educational partners, marketing campaigns, and through direct interactions during various outreach activities. The recruiter provides prospective students with information on programs and services offered by the university and opportunities to further connect.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Disseminate informational materials to prospective students through audience-appropriate communications/presentations both in person and virtually.
  • Develop relationships with high schools, middle schools and community/state agencies within a designated geographic region to promote the university to all prospective student types.
  • Greet and advise prospective students at college/education/career fairs.
  • Develop relationships with prospective students by conducting outreach and responding to inquiries and requests for information in a timely manner via phone and email. Input new and prospective student contact information and any necessary notes into CRM. Follow up with contacts and prospective students as outlined by communication plans.
  • Assist in the planning, implementation and evaluation of special outreach events, including open houses, regional events, counselor events, and other group visit opportunities.
  • Assist in planning, and participate in various special events and projects related to assigned area
  • Assist in the creation of targeted communications to prospective student within the assigned area.
  • Work with campus partners to support enrollment initiatives
  • Assist other admissions personnel in implementing various strategic enrollment initiatives
  • Keep abreast of current university programs, policies and procedures.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Supervision is received from the Associate Director of Admissions/Team Lead

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in student personnel services or other appropriate discipline desirable.
  • Current, valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
  • Willing to work a flexible/non-traditional schedule.
  • Willingness to travel

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of admissions operations; previous VSC experience
  • Specialized knowledge and skills related to specific areas of responsibility
  • Commitment to developing own professional knowledge regarding diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice and how it informs practices within area of expertise

Skills:

  • Excellent customer service, public speaking and interpersonal skills required
  • Strong planning, administrative and organizational skills
  • Ability to deal effectively with high school students, parents, school counselors, students/faculty/staff/alumni, and others, requiring group speaking skills, individual interviewing/advising skills
  • Knowledge of web-based CRM, preferably Slate

Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to support a diverse community and promote diverse perspectives, cultures and an inclusive environment
  • Ability to use data-informed decision making to inform resource allocation, processes and procedures.

Location: The Recruiter/Outreach Specialist position can work from any Vermont State University location. Depending on the assigned region/population of prospective students, this position could be hybrid.
