MercyOne Central Iowa operates four not-for-profit Catholic medical centers in Des Moines West Des Moines Newton and Centerville and two specialty hospitals – MercyOne Children’s Hospital in Des Moines and MercyOne Rehabilitation Hospital in Clive (965 beds total) – along with more than 20 additional facilities that house more than 50 primary care pediatric internal medicine and specialty clinics. Responsibilities

  • Gathers patient specific demographic and provider information to accurately assess the nature of the request. Determines the appropriate appointment time and location.
  • Facilitates timely and accurate patient imaging scheduling and access. Properly advises patients of exam instructions and other pertinent information to ensure the patient is prepared for their procedure or visit.
  • Facilitates imaging follow up care working closely with patients/family members, referring physicians, radiologists, and clinic referral staff. Assures patient scheduling of screening, diagnostic imaging and procedures to ensure timeliness of care.
  • Works with several complex scheduling workflows, manages phone calls, online requests, order indexing etc. Appropriate interpretation and application of MercyOne policies and procedures regarding modality specific scheduling criteria and medical need are essential.
  • Tracks patient populations to ensure compliance with follow up recommendations as appropriate.
  • Assists with data management as required.
  • Is knowledgeable regarding insurance/billing relevant to facility licensure; acts as a patient resource with patient accounts.
  • Maintains open and positive communication with staff, physicians, and other departments.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma/GED and minimum two years’ customer service experience in an environment requiring multi-tasking, such as a call center, administrative/physician's office, appointment scheduler or retail/ service industry; OR Associate’s Degree.
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire.
  • One year experience in health care field using medical terminology preferred. Individuals without relevant medical education or medical experience will be required to successfully complete a Medical Terminology course within six months of employment
