POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Desktop Technician provides senior technical experience and strategic insights to meet the technical needs of various user groups and is often the escalation for other technicians within the department. The Senior Desktop Technician is responsible for developing deployment strategies and team management relating to the installation, maintenance, and support of computer workstation hardware and software, printers, fax machines, peripherals, and other devices that connect to such equipment. The Senior Desktop Technician leads in all technical deployment and support efforts within the department as it relations to computer systems, system policy, and include the troubleshooting of network connectivity issues. Working closely with the Infrastructure team, the Senior Desktop Technician will provide guidance to other technicians while leading deployment and support activities. The Senior Desktop Technician also provides backup for other technicians within the department in operational activities such as the management of incident and service requests, including triaging, investigating, resolving, or escalating, when appropriate, to infrastructure or application team members. Ideally, the Senior Desktop Technician should possess sys admin experience and capability with troubleshooting a virtual server environment, general server management, group policy deployment, general server update management and active directory maintenance.
Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assists with the planning and implementation of desktop, systems administration and networking to support distributed and centralized clinical and business operations.
- Directly responsible for lead technical support – maintenance, escalation and troubleshooting of technical incidents
- Manages information security aspects and group policy for organization.
- Troubleshoot network, wifi, server, remote desktop, and vpn issues for support and IT projects
- Maintain Active Directory, Group Policy and Exchange for users
- Assists in identifying process improvement opportunities and challenges and communicating them to immediate supervisor for planning and action.
- Management and assignment of service tickets/requests.
- Troubleshooting connectivity issues and conducting/troubleshooting system diagnostics.
- Developing and deploying PC images and application packages.
- Update, patching, service management and asset management systems.
- Supervises the development of support for desktop technology and systems and creates the appropriate documentation.
- Supervises development of test data, system testing and documentation for all phases of the IT development life cycle.
- Oversees the management of desktop projects assigned from preparing project schedules and estimates through final implementation.
- Provides service support for all computer applications, telecommunications, networks, and connectivity to clinical equipment. Responsible for meeting all regulatory guidelines (such as The Joint Commission, research regulations, and others) as they relate to technology usage and support.
Qualifications:
TRAINING/EXPERIENCE
- Minimum two years of experience supporting end-user networks in a Microsoft environment.
- Minimum two years of experience supporting, managing, and or implementing a LAN/WAN environment.
- Preferably some experience as a system administrator or management of server environment; hardware and software
- Strong knowledge in the area of PC hardware and components, including desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, and other peripherals that connect to these devices.
- Thorough knowledge of computer fundamentals and installation requirements, including software operations and use of Microsoft Office, Adobe, patch management, anti-virus, and other desktop technology.
- Experience with service management and asset management systems.
- Experience developing and deploying PC images and application packages.
- Experience with Windows desktop and server operating systems, Active Directory, Exchange or Office 365, DNS, DHCP, and encryption and certificates.
- Working knowledge of internet protocols, VPN, firewall, wireless infrastructure, Ethernet, and other data communications methods.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and written documentation skills.

- Must have the ability to speak, interpret and follow verbal and written instructions in English.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
- Previous experience in a healthcare environment.
