Senior Network Engineer (Remote)
The University of Pittsburgh’s Information Technology department is seeking a Senior Network Engineer.
This technical position will participate in the analysis, planning, design, and development of enterprise network technologies delivering data, voice, and video to the University.
This position will specifically engineer, implement, and administer networking technologies for the Oakland and regional campuses and engage in the service delivery functions of the Network Engineering team.
Candidate must be highly proficient in all aspects of enterprise level voice and data networking with a focus on Cisco, Juniper, and other vendor LAN, WAN, WLAN wireless technologies including Palo Alto firewalls.Position is responsible for the execution of network changes and upgrades aligned with the network architecture and departmental goals and objectives.
Experience automating network platforms via standard tools including Ansible, GitHub, Python, and similar tools required.
Provide Tier 3 technical support for troubleshooting and problem resolution for all network systems and infrastructure. Position is on call 24×7 to fix network problems and provide extensive problem solving and leadership to the Network Operations Center and associated departmental teams. This position will also engage with customers and other departments within the University and provide subject matter expertise in the areas of Information Technology and networking.
Ability to work remote required for this position.
Requirements:
- 5 years of IT experience with demonstrated subject matter expertise in automation, enterprise data routing and switching, voice, video, and wireless (WLAN)Leverage modern network operations toolsets through software development principles and network automation.
- Knowledge of CI/CD process and systems (Jenkins, Gitlab, etc.)
- Experience with Infrastructure as a code solutions such as Ansible, Chef and PuppetExperience in of one or more programming languages (Python, YAML, PHP, or similar)
- Experience with scripting languages (Bash/sh/perl/powershell or similar)
- Understanding of or Experience with Cisco DNA and other management tools.
- Understanding of cloud networking (AWS, Azure, GCP) and the ability to support a hybrid cloud environment
- Strong knowledge of data and telecommunication technologies including but not limited to (Ethernet, switching technologies, WAN, LAN, Firewalls, SANs, MPLS, OSPF, TCP/IP, Fiber Optics, Wireless, SIP, BGP, VoIP Protocols and ISIS)
- The ability to isolate and resolve network performance and communication issues to ensure maximum up time and reliability
- Strong understanding of IP Segmentation, VLANs, trunking, Quality of Service (Voice, Wireless, and Data) static/dynamic routing and high availability configurations HSRP.
- Operational experience with the enterprise/carrier-class routers and switches (Cisco, Juniper, Avaya, and F5 Load Balancers)·
- Operational experience with security engineering, intrusion detection, intrusion prevention, firewall (Cisco ASA’s, and Palo Alto preferred)
- Extensive experience working in structured change management processes for highly available enterprise networks.
- Maintaining, creating, and updating network diagrams and documentation.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, conducive to team development
- Understanding of or Experience with Cisco DNA and other management tools.

5-6 years of enterprise IT experience demonstrating subject matter expertise is preferred.
