The Shift Supervisor will supervise staff engaged in direct nursing care and implementation of treatment plans for multiple patient areas on assigned shift. Assists the Assistant Chief Nurse Executive in the shift management of the department, including the administration, organization, supervision and evaluation of all activities and patient care. The position will oversee and supervise the based operations of the unit(s) in the absence of the Unit Manager(s). Assists in quality assurance activities and assures compliance with Agency, Departmental and accrediting Agencies policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
Job Duties:

Job Duties:
- Responsible for supervising the nursing staff and patient care for the duration of the assigned shift includes: directing all clinical functions based on regulatory standards, provision of the highest quality patient care based on regulatory standards and staff compliance of Policies/Procedures and regulatory standards.
- Ensures staff compliance of the current, revised and new standards through rounds, observation and documentation reviews.
- Ensures staff compliance of the established plans of corrections through rounds, observation and documentation reviews.
- Ensure all staff stays abreast of resident/patient care information by participating in shift-to-shift reports and rounds.
- Assists in training staff and uses progressive disciplinary actions if non compliance continues.
- Identifies, investigates and resolve problems related to patient care, and staff. Ensure timely notifications of issues to appropriate facility leader during assigned shift.
- Communicates, interprets and enforces nursing practice standards, Nursing and Hospital Policies/Procedures to clinical and non-clinical nursing staff.
- Assist with maintaining staff compliance with orientation, yearly mandatory trainings, competencies, and other required trainings on the assigned shift.
- Mentors and develops Registered Nurses to becoming effective Charge Nurses and future HDMC Nursing leaders. Mentors LPN’s to become strong clinically.
- Participate, correlate, and conducts staff meetings when needed based on the continuity of care and staff awareness.
- Collaborates with the other nurse leaders.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Communication and collaboration with the Unit Manager, Shift Supervisors, Lead Staff Coordinator, ACNE to ensure established staffing is provided for the unit.
- Assist with planning and making provisions to establish staffing for the assigned shift and/or Nursing department when covering, necessary to provide the highest patient care delivery.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse in State of Virginia
- Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing coupled with demonstrated course work in continuing education
- Considerable experience in nursing at the professional level coupled with experience in medical/surgical nursing, psychiatric nursing, geriatric nursing, rehabilitative nursing and/or nursing care of the mentally disabled.
- Proven experience in supervision and administration

- Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing is preferred
