We are seeking a driven and creative team member who will contribute to all phases of signal and image processing and development concepts in support of weapon control systems. You will be joining a team of engineers and scientists who are at the forefront of APL's mission to provide innovative solutions to crucial challenges in the area of missile defense.


As a Signal Processing Engineer...


  • You will utilize existing, and develop new, signal and image processing techniques to model, calibrate, and exploit sensor measurements
  • You will develop signal and image processing algorithms
  • You will work with Infrared (IR) and Radio Frequency (RF) data sources
  • You will fuse data from multiple sensors for target detection and tracking in support of weapon control systems
  • You will develop new concepts and innovative ideas for conducting research activities related to signal and image processing
  • You will review existing algorithms and assess their applicability to Sponsor tasks
  • You will develop and utilize physics-based models to perform analysis related to signal and image processing
  • You will document results of research activities and write technical reports, conference papers, and journal articles

Qualifications


You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...


  • Have a BS in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related field
  • Have 3+ years of related experience
  • Have a strong understanding of signal phenomenology and have previously worked with physics-based modeling of signals and sensors
  • Have a theoretical background in signal and image processing
  • Have a working knowledge of IR and/or RF sensors in support of combat system functions
  • Have strong problem formulation and algorithm development skills
  • Have previous research, development, and analysis experience
  • Have the ability to work with multiple organizations
  • Have strong multi-tasking and efficient time management skills and attention to detail
  • Have demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and the ability to relay feedback to the team in a constructive manner
  • Have experience prioritizing a complex and often overlapping schedule of deadlines and tasks
  • Ability to travel up to 5% of the time as needed
  • Have the ability to obtain an Interim Secret security clearance and ultimately a Secret clearance. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. Citizenship

  • Have an MS or PhD in a relevant field
  • Have 5+ years of related experience
  • Have strong MATLAB and Python development experience, cutting across multiple elements and systems
  • Have experience working on technical efforts in the air and missile defense community
  • Have the ability to obtain a Top Secret security clearance
  • Have peer-reviewed publication history
