POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Staff Accountant

DEPARTMENT: Finance

SUPERVISOR: Manager of Finance

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full time/Non-Exempt

Salary: $26.00 to $28.50. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and other qualifications. Benefits package includes health, dental, life insurance, 403B and vacation package.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

Staff Accountant reconciles bank accounts for CAMA, reconciles prepaid expense and receivables accounts, reconciles special events, prepares internal reports and various other tasks as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Bank reconciliations: Reconcile CAMA, CAMF, Crocker Next, EFT, Merchant and Operating bank accounts monthly.Research discrepancies, insure accurate balances.
  • Reconcile prepaid expense and receivables accounts quarterly.
  • Assist Lead Accounting Associate with recording deposits into general ledger as needed.
  • Reconciles special events revenue to Development’s revenue numbers.
  • Prepare internal reports as needed.
  • Conserve organizational resources through accurate financial record keeping.
  • Exhibit sound and accurate financial judgment; explains reasoning for decisions.
  • Include appropriate people in financial decision-making process.
  • Demonstrate efficiency and thoroughness in financial computations.
  • Monitor own work to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

· Four plus years hands-on experience in an accounting or financial environment with broad responsibility.

· Understanding of financial concepts and ability to analyze and report data to support decision making process.

· Experience with computerized accounting system and MS Office products (experience with Financial Edge a plus).

· Preference for working in a non-profit environment.

· Highly motivated person that can handle a high volume of work with accuracy in a fast-changing environment.

· Excellent analytical, time management and organizational skills.

· Keen attention to detail.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Highly accurate math and accounting skills.

· Ability to understand and resolve complex issues and problems.

· Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects, generate timely work product and manage time effectively.

· Previous non-profit accounting experience preferred.

MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

· This position has no direct reports.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Use all Museum’s resources wisely and endeavor to minimize expenses and maximize revenue.
