Responsibilities:
JOB SUMMARY: The Nursing Supervisor provides administrative and clinical supervision to all nursing staff throughout the hospital on assigned shift. The Nursing Supervisor is a liaison to department directors and administration to insure coordinated and efficient operations of services and departments. The Nursing Supervisor promotes patient care consistent with the philosophy and objectives of Garfield Park Behavioral Hospital.
Qualifications:
JOB SPECIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competency in the criteria listed in this job description. The specifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability to meet the minimum requirements for this position. The Nursing Supervisor must demonstrate flexibility and the knowledge and skills required to manage units providing care to a varied population including children, adolescents, pre-adolescents and adults.
Education: Graduate of a nursing program required. BSN Preferred.
Experience: Three years clinical experience with inpatient behavioral health population and previous clinical supervisory role in psychiatric setting preferred.
Licensure/Certification: Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois. BLS Provider certification through the American Heart Association and CPI certification required upon completion of orientation. BLS Provider and CPI certifications must remain active throughout employment.
Knowledge: Prefer knowledge of general and psychiatric nursing principles, working concepts and theory, leadership skills, age specific growth and development, limit setting, crisis and behavior management
Supervision Received: Assistant Director of Nursing and Director of Nursing
Supervision Exercised: All staff on assigned shift.
Line of Promotion: Assistant Director of Nursing
Working Conditions: Exposure to psychiatric patients who may exhibit violent/aggressive behavior. Potential for exposure to communicable diseases, blood/body fluids and other hazardous waste. General hospital environment.
Physical Requirements: Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Physical agility to manage patients. Push, pull and lift up to 50 pounds. Intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending and stooping.

Job Classification: Non -Exempt; Hours vary and my include day, evening, night, and weekend.
